Yes, I know you can get food poisoning anywhere, even your own backyard.

But generally speaking, what island(s) do you think have cleaner water, better hygeine for food prep, etc.

Thank you

We went to Martinique and had a wonderful time - no problems, and just beautiful :thumbsup2

DH and I went to Jamaica for a week and never got sick.

27 years as an International Travel agent and never saw destinations compared on this basis. I've been to many Caribbean Islands, never gotten sick. Got sick in Cincinnati once, don't go there.;)

The only place my DH got really sick in was Cancun. OMG he was so sick on our next to last day that I figured we'd never get home. We had to have a doctor come to our hotel room. Luckily he was fine by the next day. We never had problems anywhere else and I don't know anyone who has gotten sick anywhere but Mexico.

We had a great time in St. Lucia. I got "sick", but I have a very troubled tummy that gets "sick" on almost every vacation, even Disney.:thumbsup2

I have multiple food allergies, and the only place I've ever been sick while cruising the Caribbean has been Puerto Rico :)

My "bff" went to Punta Cana for a wedding and got terribly sick. She didn't think she was going to make it back home. Her advice to me was "if you ever go there, Don't Drink the Water!!- and don't brush your teeth with it either." That is how she got sick- she forgot one time and brushed her teeth with tap water. The running joke now is that she went to "Poopa Cana"....

We went to Aruba with a group of six one year, two of whom owned the time share we stayed in. The following year, they took four different people, and apparently all six of them were completely sick most of the week, fighting over bathrooms and baby wipes. We were so glad we didn't go that year. They never knew exactly what hit them.

Just because someone took one to trip to a specific place and did or did not get sick, has no impact on whether or not you will get sick in the same place. Saying "Barbados is safe" is meaningless, if you go to barbados and get sick.

You can get food poisoning any where, even right in your hometown. Like most things travel related, a little common sense goes a long way. There are tons of places thoughout the caribbean that are very safe to eat. Any many times when people get sick while traveling it was nothing to do with unsafe food handling. It's often from the stress of travel, eating foods your body isn't used to, etc, etc...

Cancun is actually one of the safest places you can go, foodwise. Most of the hotel zone uses filtered water, and their are tons of great restaurants including many fine dining options. It's much more modern than many other caribbean tourists spots.

Wish my DH had done well there but he didn't. Like a PP mentioned you can get sick anywhere. A few years ago we were in Dutch Wonderland in PA with my kids. About 1/4 thru my son eating chicken strips he showed us the inside - completely raw. Well needless to say a few hours later he was really sick - fever, diar, horrible stomach pains. So it can happen anywhere.

We went to an all inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic a few years ago. The third day and the 6th day my DH was so sick he stayed in bed all day. I didn't eat any meat (vegetarian) and was very carefull about what I ate. No salads, fruits or veggies that could have been washed in tap water. I stuck to peeled fruits like bananas and oranges, cooked veggies, pastas, breads ect. I didn't get sick the whole trip. However a couple hours after we arrived home I came down with terrible stomach cramps and diarriah. I just was so glad I made it home before it hit. It would have been a miserable plane trip and drive home from the airport.

Barbados is safe.

I live there and can attest to that! Our tap water is great. We have health regulations that govern everyone from restaurants to street vendors. I don't think our food poisoning rate is any higher than anywhere else - food poisoning can happen anywhere. I've lived here for 44 years (i.e. all my life) and I've never had food poisoning here. Interestingly, the one time my whole family got sick was on vacation in New York when I was 15! All I can remember are the blueberry pancakes from IHOP, and to this day I cannot eat blueberries. It may not have been them - maybe I just remember them because they were the last things we ate before getting sick.

But often getting sick is more to do with the individual's digestive system and its sensitivity to different water, ingredients etc. And sometimes it's simply travel nerves that settle down within a couple of days.

Bingo. You may have never gotten food poisoning in Barbados, but your body is used to the food and water. My body may react differently, but that doesn't mean there is any thing unsafe about Barbados.
