If you were offered the choice between the following two new purchase incentives, which would you choose and why? Assume all things being equal (resort, etc.), frequent Feb/Mar vacation plans and eagerness to do a big vacation.

1) $85 point, June '05 or later anniversary date
2) $90 point, Dec '04 anniversary date (points at closing, more points coming in december)

Thanks!

The current incentive for New members is no longer $95 - $10 or $85, it's only $8 off or $87, with points coming in September. You cannot use your points before then. (Or you could take the option of 100 developer points and not take the $8 discount, and use the points now.) There would also be some maintenance fees for '05, but only for the remainder of the year after your building opens.

Only current members are allowed to add on '04 points at $90, or '05 points at $87, plus 100 one time only bonus points. You can use these points now or depending on your use year, bank them. With either '04 or '05, there are no maintenance fees until the '06 use year.

Definitely, the incentive for current owners is a better deal.

the best way is to take the total cost you will spend divided by the total number of points you will get. This lets you compare incentives, various Disney offers, timeshares, etc. I think people get so focused on the number of points per year and the cost of those "points/year" that it makes it hard to compare different options. But using total cost and total points takes away those differences.

Total cost would include
- closing costs if a resale but not for Disney
- finance costs if they're different depending on different options (Disney vs resale)
- others?

Total points would include
- number of points/year times number of years left
- banked points
- extra developer or incentive points
- deduction for borrowed points used by resaler
- others?

Just a thought...

Understand and thanks for the responses. But, take the hypothetical...which is the better incentive?

This is not a clearly mathematical question. Other questions must be asked? Which use year is better for your personal vacation habits? When would you take your next vacation and/or would you be willing to rent out any excess points if you can't use them? This is more of a personal choice. JMHO

I would go with option #2, since the price with incentives is $87, not $85. Plus you will also have to pay partial maintenance fees on the June '05 points, so you'll need to tack on approx $1.75-$2 per point, which pushes the cost up to almost $89. For $1 more, you can get both '04 and '05 points, plus 100 bonus points. :teacher:

The Dec UY also works well with your vacation plans. If you were to change or cancel your Feb/Mar vacation, you would still be in your banking window. With a June UY, you'd have to use your points by 5/31 or lose them.

With option #2 you still have to pay all your 05 dues so don't forget to tack that on!! But you get all those points to use. :cool1:
