Has anyone stayed at both and have a preference? I have reservations at both and can't decide where to stay. The only obvious thing to me is that Tropicana is closer to DL.

I have stayed at both, and do not personally have a preference except what you mentioned: Tropicana is a bit closer. I had good experiences with both.

I am staying at the Tropicana end of this month myself.

I have reservations at candy cane inn. I haven't stayed at either but decided on CCI because of the free shuttle and the continental breakfast. Let us know what you decide and how it turns out.

we are staying at the candy cane in December because of the shuttle as well...it's nice to have the option and not always have to walk....the breakfast is pretty good as well and the rooms are nice....

I have stayed at the Candy Cane Inn at least 3 times within the past 16 years and have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are spacious & clean, and the complimentary breakfast has quite a bit of offerings and is very yummy. Staying at the Candy Cane Inn is well worth the price, and the location is excellent...within walking distance to Disneyland, and they also offer a free shuttle service.

I have stayed at both. The Candy Cane is a nicer place than the Tropicana. Personally I think it is much nicer but I have not stayed at the Tropicana since they remodeled in the last couple of years. The Tropicana is better looking than it was but the reviews I have read are still average when it comes to the room. The breakfast at Candy Cane is better than all the other motels around the area (except for the Residence Inn which isn;t a motel anyway). The Tropicana is usually less expensive than the Candy Cane though and is a closer walk to the parks by a few minutes.

I appreciate your feedback and have decided to go with the Candy Cane Inn. Details when we return..... :cool1:

Great! Hope you have a wonderful stay at the Candy Cane Inn! :)

I myself have reservations with family at the Candy Cane Inn for mid-October, but our flight out to LA was just canceled by the airline. Not sure if we'll be able to work around things with the airfare prices...crossing my fingers.

When are you going? If it is before the rest of us let us know how it was. We are going the thrid week in OCT.

Why was your flight cancelled? Which airline? Details please.....

Thanks,

My flight was canceled with ATA (they are having major problems...went bankrupt last year I think and are now owned by Southwest but are barely hanging on). My family was able to book another flight with Frontier, so the trip is once again on! :)

Just got back tonight. We LOVED the Candy Cane Inn. We stayed there Mon & Tues and then came back Thurs & Fri and stayed at the Howard Johnson. The Candy Cane Inn was very beautiful, clean, nice pool area and good breakfast! The free shuttle was great too! The walk was just about as far as Howard Johnsons - not too bad for either. Any questions?

I just recently stayed at Tropicanna Inn for 4 nights and it was worth the money for a 5 min walk to the front gates plus had a good mini mart and mc donalds next door plus a comfy king bed and relaxing hot tub.

No complaints from me :)

Just got back from another delightful stay at the Candy Cane Inn! We were a teensy bit sad that we didn't get the room we had requested months ago; however, the room we got instead was quite nice.

The breakfast was yummy as always...make sure you get there in time though as it is only served from 7-9 a.m. I always forget that they serve breakfast for such a short period of time each morning.

Another thing...if you bring your laptop and plan to go online, you have to have local & long distance calling activated by the front desk. After numerous attempts to dial an outside number without success, I finally read the info in the little nightstand drawer.

Highly recommend the resort! Also, the shuttle driver Oscar is very kind! The shuttle runs each half hour to the parks.

Hi Peppers. I noticed that you had requested a particular room at the Candy Cane Inn. Would you mind sharing which room you requested? Are there particular rooms at the Candy Cane Inn that are better than others?

I'm going to the Candy Cane Inn for the first time next month. REALLY looking forward to it.

Thanks,
Ella

Sure...don't mind one bit! Room 190 is our favorite; it is a corner room. It is a bit larger than most rooms; I'm not sure if it is handicapped-accessible, but it seems that it is due to the size of the room. The rate isn't any different than it is for the standard room.

The front desk lady was surprised we had picked that room because they often get a lot of complaints due to road noise (it is right beside the road). Guess my family consists of some sound sleepers! We do always travel with a "noise machine" (one of those Sharper Image thingies to block out noise). The road noise has never bothered us.

If you want a room closer to the shuttle pickup, I would recommend getting a room in the low 100s...102, 103, 104, etc...then you'll just have to walk a few steps to go back to your room after your visit to the parks.

One funny thing about the room...they put 3 humongous pillows on each bed. They overpower the bed. We just always toss them up on top of the TV hutch. I can't imagine anyone using them.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!
