I am making this a poll because I have read on some threads people questioning whether Grand Floridian was WDW's Flagship Resort. Is it?

I said it's the Contemporary based on it's overall location to the Magic Kingdom, since it's the closest and because it's one of the original Walt Disney World Resorts.

I can see why others say it's the Grand Floridian because it's the most expensive location, it's theme and the way it looks on the outside. So I guess it comes down to everyones personal opinions.

According to everything I've ever read, the Grand is in fact considered the "flagship" hotel for Walt Disney World. I realize the Contemporary and Polynesian have been there longer, but the Grand Floridian really seems to up the Deluxe status I guess. I'm not sure what criteria they use to make the flagship distinction.

Grand Floridian = :worship:

Def "THE" flagship..................

BUT would LOVE to stay in any of them...................

Well said -- agree completely on both counts. :)

I picked the Grand Floridian because 1) Disney markets it as such & 2) there are a couple of extra little amenities you receive there compared to other resorts like automatic turndown service, upgrade toiletries, etc. Not huge things. I think there used to be more. I remember staying there in the past and in the mornings they would setup complimentary coffee in the lobby of each guest building and it was in nice silver carafes, and it was not Nescafe. As far as I know they don't do that anymore. Also, the resort has more of a "fancy" feel to it.

Now, everyone has their favorite resort, and will pick that instead. But even if you don't like the uppity Victorian style of the GF, I still think it has justification for being labeled the Flagship resort.

(And I am speaking completely in terms of Disney resorts here, and already know about how much better so many hotels are over Disney hotels, and how the GF is a complete ripoff, etc. You posters know who you are. ;) )

I dont think it's debatable. WDW has classified the Grand Floridian as it's Flagship Resort

That's what I was waiting to hear. So your saying that Disney officially classifies Grand Floridian as WDW's Flagship Resort? I don't believe I've seen that from Disney but your saying it is out there. Thanks.

This is from the WDW website

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is a Victorian-style Disney Deluxe Resort distinguished as the flagship hotel of Walt Disney World Resort and offering world-class dining, entertainment and luxurious accommodations in its 6 stately red-gabled buildings. This magnificent hotel sits along the white-sand shores of Seven Seas Lagoon, and enjoys proximity to Magic Kingdom theme park.

for the Disney WDW resorts it is GF

for DVC it is SSR (it was OKW until SSR opened)

my favorites

Polyn, BC - for WDW

BLT, BCV, AKV for DVC

... for DVC it is SSR (it was OKW until SSR opened) ...

And I guess this is because OKW & SSR are the only two totally DVC resorts, with SSR being the newer of the two. Correct? Does DVC actually label SSR as the "Flagship" of DVC? I'd never heard that before. To me, I would think it's whatever their latest resort they are trying to sell is. :) And I think BLT is stylin' although we still love BCV too.

ITA, this is why I chose CR also.

I'm pretty sure Disney bills the GF at it's flagship resort in promotional materials. If I'm not mistaken GF is mentioned as the flagship resort in the vacation planning video.

I've never heard of any other resort referred to as the flagship resort.

I don't think it is a matter of opinion.

I voted for the GF, too. When we stayed there, I definitely felt that it was a 'step up' from the other WDW resorts.

yes DVC actually label SSR as the Flagship of DVC

you know it never occurred to me that you are right about the totally DVC resorts. Always though it was marketing because these 2 resorts are the only ones not close to a theme park.

before GF never heard of Disney having a flagship resort. So don't think that the CR ever had that title. besides the Disney family stayed at the Polyn not CR.

Disney says it is the GF, so I guess it is the GF.

I agree 100%. I know Disney has been calling GF it's flagship, IMHO probably because it's the most expensive in the MK area. But I still voted for CR.
