I would FP TSMM for two reasons:

1 - from my experience, TSMM is the more popular RD option, so I'd rather RD RnR

2 - RnR has a single rider line, which will sometimes save you considerable time if you are willing to use it (though there are also times when the wait is no shorter on the SR line)

For a different perspective, RnRC is not always ready at park open. People then veer to ToT. Just a little monkey wrench than can mess up the rope drop plan. However, you can make your FP reservation for TSMM starting one hour after park open to be sure. Rope drop RnRC and if not open, ride ToT quickly then enter the line for RnRC. Follow with FP for TSMM. Josh reports on his site that RnRC is frequently down for the first part of RD.

I tend to FP and RD TSMM so we can ride twice, because it's so much fun!

I then do the single rider line for RnR.

FP for ToT.

If you're talking about which ride needs FP+ more, it's not even close...RnR by a country mile. For the first 30-45 minutes the park is open, TSMM is less than a 20 minute wait. The third queue has really helped a lot. You don't even need to rope drop, we never do. Show up at 9:15am and you'll still be fine. Or, wait until the end of the day. If the park closes at 9:30pm, by 9:00pm TSMM will literally be a straight walk on. You can ride it over and over and over if you wish. That simply never happens with RnR. Line builds almost immediately after park open and stays long through the night.

I was looking at FP availability from home for yesterday. Before 6 pm the FP for TSM were gone but there was still availability for RNR. But I'm sure it varies by day. So my point is if you were there on a day like yesterday you could have had RNR as a Fourth FP pretty late in the day.

Yes, that is a bit of an oddity. Our experience is the same, FP+ for RnR is often (not always) easier to get than for TSMM. However, from a standby perspective, TSMM is far easier.

We always used our FP for TSMM however this trip we used it for RNR and TSMM was our 4th and 5th FP of the day, no problem. Yep that's right we were able to grab 2 FP+ one right after another for
TSMM anytime after 3pm each day. With that said, we were still getting RNR FP between 5-8pm everyday as well while waiting for Fantasmic!

I've had great luck getting both, but I'm only searching for 2. If only part of a group wanted to do RnRC that would be a good thing to look out for. On moderately busy days, a lot of people probably leave about 1 or 2 pm leaving a decent amount of afternoon/evening FP availability. Larger parties may not even think to check using a split group so it's something to keep in mind.

My official answer is RnRC. Since that's both DH's and DS's favorite ride at DHS, we always use our FP+ for that. But I'm glad to hear that TSMM is getting easier, as I do hope to squeeze it in sometime!

When we go it always seems like the line is longer for toy story so I always fast pass that and just stand in line for rockin roller coaster!

No reason to have to stand in that line. Both are easy to FP+, and there are lots of easy times to get on TSMM without one. The line for RnR is long...at least it looks like it. I honestly can't recall the last time I did that one standby, and it's my favorite ride in WDW...I ride it many, many times each trip.

Last week DS15 and I rode RnRC standby. The wait said 70 minutes and it took about 20. We then went to our FP+ for TSMM and then back to RnRC. The wait said 40 but the CM told us it was a 75 minute line. We just got lucky I guess. That said if everyone can ride RnRC I would FP+ it and RD or late night TSMM
