Which is better - Blue Bayou or Cafe Orleans?

While both are yummy, I prefer Blue Bayou. It is always our "Special" meal when we go. The ambiance is what we love. The food is really good but pricey. We share meals. There is a split plate charge but then each person gets their own salad as well. Also, we always buy some of the chocolate meltaway mints after our meal. They are not advertised but we found out about them years ago and always ask for them.

We have eaten at Cafe Orleans as well, and while the food is good and prices are better, I am not thrilled about the ambiance.

better atmosphere = Blue Bayou

better food/prices/value = Cafe Orleans

I prefer the Blue Bayou, It feels more special no doubt due to the atmosphere. Food is comparable at both. I feel that service may be a little better at the Bayou.

blue bayou.. i have eaten once at the BB it was YEARS ago, but i prefer it over NOCC! the bread bowls are like rubber, and the gumbo looks like my dogs food!

We're eating at BB for the first time next month. Last summer we ate at Cafe Orleans and looooved it. The pomme frites are to die for. I have to admit, while I am really looking forward to the experience of BB, the menu doesn't look that enticing to me.

And, the split plate charge... what if you don't want your own salad/soup? Will they waive the fee and let you just share?

I agree with this - I had lunch today at BB and was pretty disappointed with the food. Maybe I'm food unknowledgeable but the gumbo and the jambalaya tasted exactly the same - the gumbo was just more liquid and the jambalaya had some prawns put on the top. the chocolate mousse was obvi some kind of processed fake mixture. Pretty disappointing food wise all round.:sad2:

We love Cafe Orleans, the atmosphere at BB is good but not good enough for the price of terrible service and so-so food, we have always had excellent service at CO and the food has always been spot on

For food: Cafe' Orleans, no doubt about it.

For atmosphere: Blue Bayou...there's nothing like having a meal in the POTC ride!

I agreed with everyone on this thread.

Cafe Orleans for food, love the monte cristo. I like eating outside while I watch all the guests walking outside and watching the Mark Twain go by on the roa.

Blue Bayou for the atmosphere, can't get tired of being in NO during the evening with the fireflies at night. I wish the food was better for the price, but it was decent.

Blue Bayou hands down.

^^ To answer your question, if you want to split a meal, but don't need your own sides then you do have another option instead of paying the split plat charge. Just ask for a second plate and you can split it yourself for free.

Of my 2 experiences at CO, both were poor. The service was awful both times and the food did not make up for it. Of my multiple meals at BB, I've only been disappointed once and that was because they forgot about us and we ended up waiting forever for a table. Other than that, I've enjoyed the food & atmosphere immensely every time. I have had great service, good service, and so-so service (at BB), but mostly good. The filet mignon or surf & turf (which is filet mignon and lobster) is wonderful. I love the monte cristo as well, but that seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it thing, kind of like mint juleps :). I happen to like both :lmao:

I have only been to BB but we had a wonderful time in March. We had great service and we all loved the food. The atmosphere was so amazing the kids had a great time. We had 3 adults and 2 kids we all ordered different food and we all really loved what we had. I was really impressed we are going once again in August we decided it will be something we do every time we visit the parks. It is pricey but it's a great experience.

BB's way more special. If I had to pick one or the other and wasn't coming back for moths or years, BB. No question.

CO's less expensive and has very good food but it's no more of an "experience" than eating at Denny's in my opinion. I've loved everything I've eaten there, tho. The gumbo, fries, and french onion soup are all great and the entrees are tasty. Oh, and a party of 2-4 can get in with a short wait, even on a Friday/Saturday night.

How do you know what your dog's food taste like? Just curious.

We have a reservation for BB next week! It is on my bucket list and so excited to finally get it done! I plan on trying the Mickey Beignets at CO. I was in NO in February and absolutely loved the Beignets at Cafe du Monde. Hoping Mickey hits the spot!:goodvibes

Definitely Cafe Orleans. Better food and better prices. Blue Bayou has the atmosphere, but I think it's overrated. I suppose it's the sort of thing everyone should do once, but I enjoy it less every time I eat there (which I only do now when I'm with people who want to go there).
