Which hotels are within walking distance?

We've been to Disney World twice but I'm having serious Disney withdrawal and I'd love a trip to DLP to get our fix! I'm a bit confused about the hotels though. Which hotels are within walking distance to either park or even to Disney Village? I just have it in my head that it would be great to be able to walk to a Disney spot, be it Disney village or a park! Are there any non Disney hotels within walking distance? As we've done the Disney hotels in Orlando, I'm not sure it's essential for our hotel to be a Disney one this time (although it would be nice). So anyone have a list of both Disney and non-Disney hotels within walking distance? Cost is a factor!! Thanks for any advice!

I would say all Disney hotels are within walking distance. The Santa Fe is the furthest away of the Disney resorts and took me much less than the 20 min listed in the guide books (But then, I am a very fast walker)

Also the Minnie train does run to HNY, SQL, and NPB if you need it, albeit not all the time.

The first time I took the bus from the Cheyenne I didn't realize that we were already 'there' when we pulled up at the train station . With small kids of course, it will take longer and walking may not always be the best option

As mentioned they are all within walking distance, dependant on how far you want to walk and whether you've got little ones.
At the Cheyenne and Santa Fe we used the shuttle buses.
At the Newport Bay we walked to the parks via the lake and village, Sequoia Lodge and Hotel New York are in the same area, although HNY is nearer Disney Village.
It's a very nice walk and I much preferred it to taking the Shuttle buses, we had a 3 and 6 year old with us and they were OK with the walk.

Others have mentioned walking from The Explorer, but I'd stick with others that the Disney hotels are no more than 20 minutes so easily the most accessible for walking

i agree, all hotels are in walking distance, and it usually only takes me 10 mins to walk from the shiane all the way up to cafae micky

All the Disney hotels are within walking distance of both parks and the village.
These timings are from a brochure (cheapest first):
Santa Fe - 20 min
Cheyenne - 20 min
Sequoia Lodge - 10 min
Newport Bay Club - 15 min
Hotel New York - 10 min
Disneyland Hotel - at park entrance (5 min to village)

All the disney hotels have free bus service as well.

None of the non-disney hotels are within walking distance but they also have a free bus service.

Oh but they are!! We often walk in to the parks or back to the Explorers. It takes us about 25 minutes. So it is possible to walk to/from the offsites (Explorers, Vienna Dream, Kyriad and Holiday Inn).

I was convinced by everything I'd read that to be within walking distance it had to be a Disney one

I guess Disney keep quiet about this possibility to encourage more people to stay in their hotels!
Its good to know for future plans though! I'd love to go in the summer but can't afford disney hotel summer prices but if we could stay off-site it would be so much more affordable! And in summer the walk would be no prob!

Don't be sorry! All the brochures lead you to believe you have to catch the shuttle bus. It was from DISers on here that I first realised it was possible to walk it!

I guess Disney keep quiet about this possibility to encourage more people to stay in their hotels!

Given the choice I would pick a Disney hotel any day but as there are 5 of us it makes economical sense to stay off-site. The walk is very enjoyable, especially in the summer but I will admit that we don't do it every day!!

I always enjoy the walk from the Sequoia myself. It's just far enough to let your breakfast settle before hitting those rides. It's also nice for a walk round when you've got back from all the excitement. The birdsong and piano music piped through the grounds is really nice

you need to consider the time of year you're going. The walk along the river to cheyanne + santa fe is absolutely lovely during the summer and seems to only take a few minutes. In the winter its quite a long walk in the cold!

thanks! when we went in november it felt like it was freezing but didnt notice any ice. not sure if they gritted the pathways or not

hiya,

we have stayed at cheyenne and santa fe which are the 2 disney hotels that are furthest away. the walk is absolutely fine. my partner has a prolapse disc in her back which can cause problems with walking long distances but she manages it without any problems. occasionally we'll catch the bus back as we are tired from walking around the parks all day!! i would say it takes less than the 20 minutes stated in the brochures, even with jane who walks slower than most. it really is a lovely walk along the river, and it was even fine last new year when we walked to the parks in the snow. joe managed it too and he's a 9 year old with autism who dislikes walking!!

we enjoy staying in the disney hotels as it adds a bit of disney magic after you leave the parks. also they have recently started extra magic hrs for disney hotel guests so thats an added bonus.

next stay is going to be at the davy crockett ranch, and the one after that is sequoia lodge.
