If you could chose any hotel/resort without price being a factor, which would you chose and why? Diseny property and non-Disney? There will be 4 of us for 2 nights, myself (34), DH (35), DD (10) and Grandma (60). We currently have reservations for Downtown Hilton for 1/25-1/27/09. Thanks for any and all comments!

On Property: The Grand Floridian

On Property Runners Up: Contemporary, Polynesian, Beach and Yacht Club

Off Property: The Grand Hyatt (if you wanted to pick nicest/most convenient) or the JW Marriott/Ritz Carlton (which is nice but further).

Off Property Runners Up: Marriott World Center, Omni at Champions Gate, Gaylord Palms

If cost were no factor, I would definitely go for a 2br unit in one of the DVC resorts. I'd love to stay at Wilderness Lodge, but the Beach Club Villas would also be good. The Grand Floridian is a beautiful hotel, but it's SO convenient to have your own kitchen to grab snacks or quick meals. I hate sitting in restaurants waiting for food.

onsite

Polyn - on the monrail (so are the GF and CR) - so easy access to MK and Epcot (walk to TTC)

or VWL, BCV, BWV - all with walking distance of a WDW park - go with 2-bedroom villa

next year (in september hopefully) BLT - bay lake towers - it will be the closer resort to the MK. It is connected to the CR - so you have the use of CR monrail.

offsite
Wynham's Bonnett Creek - now you will need a rental car here - but it has 1 bedroom to 4 bedroom villa

the new Hilton @ bonnett creek - if they are still building it

grand cypress hyatt

ritz carlton - although not close to WDW

the marriott world center - an older place but got a nice rehab last year

it has a sale going on

Yes! The Hilton at Bonnett Creek should be open sometime around Fall '09. Its obviously hard to say that it is nice since its not complete, but Im sure it will be as it will be brand new..

And for Sheila's point about cooking, etc: Thats a personal preference...I personally dont want to have anything to do with cooking while on vacation but those are good choices she mentioned if you did want to cook.

With that travel party...

Onsite, 2BR at either BCV or VWL, or Grand Villa at OKW.
Offsite, 3BR at Bonnet Creek.

As to the kitchen: I don't really "cook" on vacation so much as I "assemble". But, I really like being able to have breakfast in my PJs. Doing that in a restaurant will earn you a few askance glances. :)

Another vote for Bonnet Creek. I'm a "meal assembler" like BrianNoble. We order some groceries to be delivered when we check in...but definitely don't do much cooking...unless you consider microwaving popcorn cooking! LOL!

We love having breakfast in our PJ's and having an afternoon or evening snack while hanging out.

I just love the space of a villa for our family of 5. Not having maid service or room service is not missed by me at all. Cramming 5 of us into one hotel room is no vacation for us. I just love those mulitple bedrooms, baths, washer/dryer, etc..

Now when it's just DH and I, I'd certainly go for the 5 star luxury hotel.
