We currently have a 2003 Honda Odyssey. I have been very happy with it, but we did not get the entertainment system when we leased it. My DH test drove the 2006 Odyssey and brought it by the house for me to see. I fell in love with it! But not the lease price! :( Out of curiosity, my DH got a quote for a lease on the Pilot with the entertainment system. It is a lot lower than the Odyssey. We are considering getting the Pilot now. I have to go and test drive it to be sure. Now I am used to the automatic sliding doors on the minivan, which I would miss. But I am not against switching vehicles. I also like the fact that the Pilot has room for 8, like the Odyssey! :)

Does anyone have the Pilot? Do they like it? Is it easy to get kids in and out of? My 2 children are 3 1/2 and 22 months old.

LOVE the Pilot. We have one, and our DDs are ages 4.5 yrs and almost 2 yrs. Lots of room. We usually just keep the back seat folded, and if someone needs to sit back there (usually me) I'll crawl thru the back door. I hate taking car seats in and out. We also have the dvd. Theres tons of room, and I love the area between the 2 front seats...no shift lever there and that adds tons of room, especially for picking up takeout, etc.

We have the Ody, with the Ent and Nav, which I love! I really can't help you much since I don't have experience with the Pilot, but in your case I would consider it. I would have if we didn't have more kids. We have 3 kids still at home (plus one in college) and lots of baseball gear, etc. Since our kids are older we haul a lot of stuff around.

Try driving the Pilot and see how you like it. You might find that you love it or you might really prefer the Ody.

I have a 2006 pilot and we love it. There is plenty of room especially when you put the seats flat for carting stuff home from Ikea :rotfl2: We do not have the entertainment system as my kids are older......but I love the way it handles and it is very easy to get in and out of.

I can't comment on the Pilot, but I have a Honda CR-V which I love!!! It's pretty roomy too.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my Pilot! We lease ours too and got a really great deal on it. We looked at CRV's at the same time because that was what we were replacing and it would have cost more! We also have a Civic which is great too and much better on gas.

But the Pilot has lots of space and really drives nice; very smooth. We dont have a dvd player but we have a portable one we take with us. We do have a 6 disc CD changer which is really nice though.

I've researched both thoroughly - do you still need the space of the Odyssey? With 2 toddlers it seems you do. The storage and comfort of the Odyssey by far exceed the Pilot. I do/did own an Acura MDX (nicer/ more bells and whistles version of the Pilot) - and as far as SUV's go it is the nicest out there but for the best space/comfort and gas mileage the Odyssey beats it!

Personally, I would purchase a Touring Odyssey with Nav and DVD today - and my kids are 10 and 12 - been out of a minivan for about 6 years now!

Thanks for all of the input everyone! :)

Unfortunately, we just can't seem to swing the payments of the Odyssey. Otherwise, we would lease it in a heart beat! ;) So unless we find a better deal at a dealership out of state, then we will probably go with the Pilot. At this point, I don't see us having any more children. So I think that the Pilot would be plenty big for us! :)

Can I ask the lease payment? We wanted a 2006 Sienna with DVD etc. The paymet was 460.00 a month. So we went with a Town and Country Limited. I really love the car. We looked at the Pilot too but with a 14 month old 7 and 3 yo, I need sliding doors.

I was quoted $450 with $2,000 for a 36 month lease at one dealership. Then $499 with $2,000 down at another. The Pilot is $389 with $2,000 down.

I have a 99 Ody. I hate to part with it but the time is coming. I did drive the 2006 Touring Ody and the 2006 Pilot LX. I found the Pilot to have less room than the Ody and the drivers seat was hard - like I was sitting on a hard plastic molded chair.
I love the "pit" in my Ody. It was a perfect place for the stroller when my boys where smaller. I would worry about things sliding around the back of any SUV. Also, it might be a while before your kids can actually open the doors from the outside of a Pilot. With the Ody, you can open them with your key FOB and the kids can climb in. Those sliding doors will give you much more room to reach in and buckle the kids in.

Just my thoughts. I'd be thrilled with either.

I own an MDX after driving mini-vans for 10 years. While I LOVE the MDX, I'll probably go back to a van when the lease is up. Biggest thing I miss is the sliding doors. What a pain when you're hands are full to open the door, plus in parking lots many times it's difficult to even fully open the door. Before I could puch the button and the door was open, many times before I even got to the car. If my kids were still small, I think it would be even more important to me to have the sliding doors, more room to negotiate the whole car seat buckling routine.

I should probably have a button to push with a recorded message ever time I turn off the engine - "Watch the doors." After being in a van for all those years, the very first day I had the MDX my dd opened the door right into my DH's brand new car. Big ding in less than 24 hours. :guilty: Now those words leave my mouth every time I turn off the car.

Well, we bit the bullit and leased the Pilot today. It is definitely shorter in length than the Odyssey! :( But I think that we will survive! ;) Now the only issue is that my DS (22 months old) keeps kicking the back of the drivers seat! We got the steel blue metallic color. It is really a beautiful car! And we are only paying $9 more per month than our 2003 Odyssey lease. And the Pilot includes an entertainment center with a DVD! ;)
