Which Grand California units will be DVC?

Does anyone know which units in the new GC expansion are expected to be DVC villas? A previous post stated that per a guide, all units are expected to have a park view... If that's the case sounds like there probably won't be any 'Standard' or 'Value' point level options. Do you know if they plan to have 'Concierge'?

here's the link to the construction model on DVCNews (if you have a better map/representation that would be great)

Great article! I wish DVC would release points charts and points prices..
(I have room for 1 more resort in my signature line. ;) )

I had heard that they would be mostly park view, but also some pool view.

The models have a disclaimer sign on the balcony table that says not all views will be of the theme park.

When we stayed at the GCH in July, we had a park/pool view and there were GCV rooms facing the pool with a partial park view. I took pictures of the construction at that time, I'll have to see if I can find it.

Not all of the views will be theme park. Take a look at the image below. That's the construction model of the entire expansion. About half of it is new cash rooms and the rest DVC.

I'm doing this from memory, but I think it's accurate. The section bordered red will be the best theme park view. That will directly overlook the Paradise Pier section, sitting behind the new Little Mermaid attraction they have planned.

The green will also be a view of the park, but probably not quite as good. IIRC that sits behind the kids play area (Redwood Creek?) The theming is pretty thick with trees and such, so you probably won't see much of the park here.

Finally the blue section overlooks the pool.

There are only 50 villas spread over 4-5 floors, so the number of rooms in each area will be pretty small. Figure something like this:

Paradise Pier view: 20-25 villas (45%) including one Grand Villa
Other theme park: 10-12 villas (20%)
Pool view: 15-18 villas (35%) including one Grand Villa

That's my best guess.

Personally I'd be thrilled if there were view booking catagories. I would love to have at least a little flexibility in the high number of points I'm going to need to stay there each night! Over the course of 50 years there will be times when I'd like to opt out of the view in favor of staying an extra night or getting a bigger villa. :thumbsup2

The blue over the pool, is that the current pool? The other structures are the existing buildings. right? With the entrance to the current GC just there to the left?

If so, I would think the red looks out onto Disneyland Dr. Blue I would think then would be pool/park, while green would be Paradise Pier park views.

I wrote the post saying our guide just told us all rooms would have park views. Seemed a little odd to me since the new development area looks like it has rooms that will not be facing the parks. I specifically asked, "There won't be any standard views?" ... so I thought maybe a part of the new development might be for standard hotel rooms? It makes sense that there would be different DVC view categories for this development and they don't have a points chart yet, so I would just assume our guide was wrong on that, or misunderstood my question. :confused3

It was funny because the guide said I will probably know about GCV going on sale before he will because we get so much info on the DisBoards, sometimes before the guides even hear about it! :disrocks:

I think it is the new quiet pool. If you look at a Google Earth view of the current hotel, you can kind of see how the new structure will follow the existing parking spaces and fit into a lawn area currently behind the Redwood Trail attraction. Given that they have plans to redo much of that area of DCA, who knows what the view will be of in 2+ years! Sounds like the Park View rooms will also have a good view of the pending new DCA water/fireworks show.
The 'all theme park view' didn't jive with where I thought they were placing the new structure. I'm happy though, would love different point levels to add more flexibility as the above poster stated!

No. The entire model in that image is an expansion to the Grand Californian. The sections that I did not identify as being DVC villas are cash guest rooms being added to the resort. In addition to the DVC villas they are expanding the hotel by 200 or so rooms.

Just beneath the area that I colored blue IS a new pool...however it will be located right next to the existing pool complex. Take a look at the image below. There you can see current pool chairs along with the building construction. This photo was taken from an area roughly behind the kiddie slide.

The building which appears there is the corner where the blue and green lines meet in the model image above. The new pool will be tucked in next to the building to the far right of this photograph when construction is complete.

No the red is Paradise Pier. In the photo below you can see the side of the building I colored red. Roughly in the middle the triangular roof is already visible.
