Which gate should we line up at??

I know i've heard people mentioning that there are some secrets and tips for which gates to line up at or where to wait for Disneyland to open?

Also, how long before official opening do the gates open for Main Street??

We are travelling the first week of August and can't wait!

Any other August tips in general would be appreciated

We line up at gate 13 because if they open 14, the line for gate 13 feeds into that one too due to a tree in the way. The tree blocks people from lining up in front of 14. Sometimes this trick works, and other times they don't open gate 14. But we always give it a shot.

Oh, and if you are going during the summer hours, I have never seen them open Main Street before the reg. opening at 8am. Maybe they don't do this during the summer but I have never seen a rope drop. We always end up waiting at the gate, not on Main Street.
