Which floor do you prefer at OKW?

When we last stayed at OKW, we were on the 3rd floor. My DH didn't like all the stairs since he had to carry most of our luggage.
So, this summer, I have requested a lower level. But in January, we stayed at HH and were on the lower level and I was woken up in the early morning by the people above us (it sounded like they were bouncing a ball and they were definitely packing to leave). My DH is a good sleeper and heard nothing.

I am wondering what to do; keep the request for DH and hope no one noisy is above us. Or request the upper level and make poor DH walk those stairs.

Anyone have an opinion?

Noise can come from next door as well as above. IMHO, give poor DH a break and go for the first floor. We have been @ OKW two times and have been on the first floor each time - never had a noise problem.
Enjoy your stay. :jester:

I really enjoy spending time looking at the view at OKW. I always ask for 2nd floor and have been lucky to get it. Many times, the 2nd floor has been the "top" floor where we are located. I haven't done a 3rd floor and I agree that might be a bit much for lugging things and even for heading home after a long day.

You know how "magic" happens at WDW sometimes? One year my dad (in his 70's) and I were bringing the luggage up to our second floor. A very wonderful man came and helped us! A real neighbor. He was no youngster either but he sure was a wonderful man. He said his children and grandchildren were all down with him and they were in different parts of the villa where we were staying. One of those moments that will stick with me. Amazing what a little kindness can do. :)

We have always stayed on the top floor at OKW. We had guests come down with us once who needed the first floor b/c one of our guests had an ECV due to medical reasons. They said that it was quite noisy between the guests above them and people running up and down the stairs. The second floor probably has the same issues. I'd say if you can, go for the top floor.

Not that I am advocating requesting a handicapped room if you don't need one, but from talking with CM's at check-in I've heard there are a few OKW buildings with elevators. Maybe others on this board could provide more info about that. I'd imagine many if not all rooms in these buildings are handicap accessable rooms (slightly different room with a shower instead of a tub). Perhaps you could ask if they have any rooms on the top floor of one of these buildings that is not a handicap accessable room? That would get you a top floor without all the stairs. Just an idea.

building 62-64 have the elevators - good luck getting them

when I am with my mother - first floor - sometimes it is noisey above - but most time it is not. My mother is 80 and has trouble going up and down stairs. My brother has a plastic hip and a metal ball and join in his leg - so again I request first floor (this time for medical reasons).

When I bring friends - 2nd floor is fine.

When I go alone - the higher the better.....

the views are much better higher up......

there is no comparing a 2nd or 3rd floor view with the first - the first just don't have that great of views.

We always request the 3rd floor. It means there's nobody above you, you've got a better shot at a great view, and you won't get a handicapped accessible room. All of these make it worth it to us to carry our luggage up two flights of steps. We usually stay for a week or more, though. Maybe we'd feel differently if we (me!) had to carry the luggage up there for a two night stay (but then we'd have less luggage, right?).

But if it's not worth it to DH, don't sweat it. OKW's buildings are well constructed, so sound isn't usually a problem. The one time we were put on the 1st floor we didn't hear anything. Really, the guarantee of a non-HC room is the big reason we ask for top floor.

Hm. I would definitely not want to request a handicap accessable room, because we don't need it. (What's the matter with a HC room?) The only time we've stayed there, we got the third floor and I really liked it.

I also requested the building loop that we were in (right across the bridge from the main pool, near the bus stop), so hopefully that will be prioritized more.

Maybe I should call. We will be there for 4 nights. I have two teenage boys who are definitely capable of helping carry the luggage. So are my DD11 and DS9 and I, for that matter. And what's a few more stairs after a day of running around the parks anyway ;) . I can just act like the lower levels weren't available.:smooth: I really don't want to be disturbed by the noise around us, if possible.

Third floor views are the best, however, I prefer the "2nd floor of a 2 story" building and that's what I request. Don't always get it, sometimes get the third floor instead, but I am a light sleeper and just prefer not to be under someone else.

The HC accessible rooms are just laid out differently. We were given a HC studio once at OKW that had a roll-in shower with a curtain, and after using the shower the floor would be wet. I skidded on the wet floor and actually broke a toe, although it wasn't anything serious. I think that the counters are at a different height, and the light switches, etc.

It's not a huge deal to us, but we'd rather have a more normal room. Being on an upper floor pretty much guarantees that.

everything is set up for a person in a wheelchair - so the counters are higher - but so is the toliet that mother had a really problem with and learned to hate it quick.

I had a problem with their not being a tub only a shower - a shower with a curtain - so it can tangle up on you.... (this was a studio)

Last summer we had a 3rd floor at OKW, and we had driven, bringing too much luggage, food, cases of bottled water, etc. Most of the carrying was done by DS and DNephew, both of whom were 17 at the time, and it was POURING at the time of our check-in. The guys were pretty miserable for about an hour afterward, but once we got situated and had 8 days to settle in, eveybody, even the boys, agreed it was worth it.

Yes, it was tough going up those flights of stairs after a long day at the parks, but it was worth it when we sat on the balcony, and we all slept really well every single night we were there. I figure it burned a few extra calories, which we all needed to do!

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful time!
