Which ECV Rental?

I tried to use the search, but it was down. Anyway, we will be traveling with my mom who has serious mobility problems. She can walk short distances but will need an ECV for our trip. Her problems walking are so severe that she will need the scooter all the time. Renting from the parks just for the day is not an option. I have seen Care, Walker, Randy's, and Colonial all mentioned. What are your personal experiences and do you recommend one over the other? Thanks so much for your help. This is a first trip having to use a scooter and I need all the suggestions I can get.

Melanie

I have used Walker about ten times. Only once was there a problem with an ECV, and they were there within an hour to replace it. The ECVs have always been waiting for me at my hotel.

Based on arrival and departure times they will work with you. For example, with a late afternoon arrival the ECV is there but they don't charge for that day. If I am leaving in early to mid afternoon they will only charge for a half day. The full rental gets charged to the credit card the day before arrival.

I have not heard anything bad about the others, as far as service or quality.

I understand that Randy's prices are lower than the others. However they require you actually be present to accept the ECV (rather than leaving it at bell services prior to your arrival) and sign some sort of waiver of liability. I have also heard that you must be present when they pcik it up.

I have always used Care after I got an attitude when I called Walker. Never had a problem with Care. Can pay by credit card or cash. THey will deliver before youa rrive and pick up after if by credit card but if you pay cash you have to be present when it is deleivered.

I have used both Care and Walker's. They are pretty much the same. I have called Bob at Walker's to ask questions for an international traveler and he was very helpful. I'll be using Walker's again this Nov.

Melanie-
I'd give 2 thumbs up to Walker and would use them again if the need arises. We decided at the last minute to use an ECV over a push w/c for my mom on our last trip. I called Walker and it was there within 2 hours and they were so friendly in their instruction to my mom. Very pleasant on the phone and in person.

Definitely a better idea that renting in the parks so that the long walk from the park entrance and exit is no problem.

HTH!

Thank you so much for your suggestions. We are leaning toward Walker right now. Does anyone know why Randy's is so much cheaper?

From what I understand, Randys is a small family business that just deals in mobility devices. The other companies are full service medical supply companies. Randys will deliver, but the renter has to be there for the drop off and the pick up. I would guess for all those reasons, that Randys costs are probably lower.

I used to rent from Walker, but now I rent from Randy's. At first I thought it was inconvenient to have to be present for drop-off and pick-up, but it worked out great. They came to our room at the CR, and the ECV was newer than equipment I'd had from Walker (Had probs with their ECV one time). Being their in person for drop-off means they show you exactly how everything on the ECV works, and there are differences between them. It also insures the hotel won't misplace your ECV which did happen to me once and took hours to straighten out, keeping us up 3 hours later than we wanted to be in bed. Randy's works with your schedule, has new equipment, and the rates are the best. They saved me $90 over Care or Walker for our Thanksgiving trip, then I told them I wanted it 8 instead of 7 days, and they gave me the extra day at no cost. For us, Care and Walker offer no advantage, and I'll rent with them only if Randy's is totally booked.

After considering our options, we have decided to go with Randy's. My mom has never used and ECV before and we want the instructions on how to use it. Also, even though we are at the Poly, we are driving and may want to drive to some parks and DD ourselves. I want to be shown how to use the ECV that breaks down and can be put in the truck. I so appreciate all your advice. I knew I could find the answers to all my questions over here. Thanks again!!

I'm looking into this too for my mom. Does anyone have the phone #'s for these companies or websites? Thanks!

I'm using Randy's for the first time in June and all of this imformation makes me fee much more secure. I was afraid that maybe I had made a mistake using Randy's when most of the folks on the board seem to use Care.

Thanks again for all the info on Randy's :)

Here is the contact info for all the places that DIS posters report being pleased with:

RANDY'S Mobility is in Kissimmee 407-892-4777

Colonial Medical

Which company is used the most varies wiht when you read the boards. For a while it seems like most people are using Care, then Walker or Randys gets mentioned more. I think all of these are fairly busy.

I used Randy's in january and had no problem at all, they cam right when they said they woud for both pick up and drop off. They are very nice and I will use them again in October!

I used Randy;s in 2000 and got great serivce! They came right out when my ECV broke down and got me up and running in no time with a new machine.

I will be using Randy's in August and again next year.

Daisimae :D

I used Randy's this past November and they were wonderful. My chair was in mint condition and very easy to use. Dropoff and pick-up were very convenient (they went out of the way to make sure it was a good time for us). I hope to have my own chair by my July trip, but if not I'll be using Randy's again.

Lisa:

Thanks to you and everyone else. I know when I contacted Randy's they were wonderful to work with.

I hope everything goes good. I look forward to a good ECV instead of the ones that Disney has :)

Another Randy's fan. We called him the first a.m. we were going to the parks and he delivered to our condo within the half hour. He was extremely courteous and friendly and the equipment was in perfect condition. Would use him again in a heartbeat!

I just got back and used Walkers for the first time. I thought this ECV was better than the ones I saw rented at the parks b/c it had 3 wheels instead of 4. Grama has Parkinson's and I think it made it a bit easier for her to drive.

It was easy to take apart, but I had SUPER directions from Cheshire Figment!

I rented from Walker again last week & had no problems. It was delivered when they said it would. We did put air in the front tire at the Studios (where they rent ECVs). I much prefer the three wheeled ECVs to the four wheeled ones.
