If you could pick any WDW DVC resort for a one night stay, which one would it be and why?

We have one night after a Disney cruise for a stay (thanks to flight times and prices!) and every resort is available on some level (studio or 1BR). We will arrive about an hour after disembarking from the ship (so 10:00 am-ish) and depart the following afternoon. We are not planning to do a park since one-day tickets for our family is a car payment! So we want a resort with a good pool, good activities, and fun for our boys (6 & 8). We own at BLT and have stayed there as well as SS, AKL, BWV and OKW. We would stay at any of those again or are open to trying a new resort. So I thought I would pose the question...if YOU could pick, where would you stay for one night?

I would do AKL Savannah View personally, I love being able to go out on the Balcony and see the animals. Might be the next best thing to going into the parks as well. I would honestly suggest staying in Jambo house, as there are a lot of activities there as well.

For a single day, after being on a cruise, I would do a 1BR at SSR. it has a great Community Hall, 3 fun pools for kids ( which will have more play room than the ship pools), plus it is calm and peaceful. In the evening you can eat at the Turf Club or take the boat over to DTD and choose from a variety of restaurants. Afterwards there's the Lego store or a quick boat ride back. I think you would enjoy SSR as a way to ease back into the real world.
Have a great time!

I think 11 is more realistic for an arrival time. I too would choose a resort with a Community Hall. AKV or SSR seem like good choices to me. I love AKV because of the animals and even more because of the CMs

This is my vote too.

I've actually had situations where I added one night to a business trip. My choice was BCV or BWV, so I could make the most of my time by walking to/from Epcot. One time I went to MK to see Spectro & Wishes (it was in the winter so it was early), hopped the monorail to Epcot in time to see Illuminations and then walked to my room at BCV. I was lucky to get a studio 1 week out.

Another time was mid-October, there were no DVC rooms anywhere for a Sunday night, I called about 3 weeks out. I ended up using points for POFQ, this was before the $95 fee.

A non-park visit for one night? Mine would be AKV (Jambo preferred but Kidani just fine) or VWL. Those are my 2 favorite resorts to just hang out at and relax.

AKL, BWV, BCV All good choices for hanging out pools etc. I might try WLV maybe take a boat ride over to ft wilderness, if kids want to be a bit more active then just hanging at resort. I probably would select someplace I haven't been just to try it out.

Enjoy!

I concur. Especially with the part in bold! :thumbsup2

AKV savanna view all the way!!!!! Or maybe SSR to hop over to Downtown Disney. BCV/BWV/BLT/GFV would all be too tempting to go into parks...too painful as you can pretty much hear, see and smell the parks. This is for me, what I would pick...but for you...
...if you want to try out a new place...BCV has that great pool for your boys and lots of dining and entertainment in the BW area. And there's VGF as a try it out for one night won't break the bank and it's new and soooo beautiful. These might be nice if it won't torment you to see the parks.

AKV seems to be quite the front runner right now! I love hearing everyone's suggestions and reasons...it all helps me think through my reasons.

Keep 'em coming!

It really depends what you like.
SSR: great community hall, pool, grounds and the proximity to DTDs awesome to walk around.
AKV: great pools, animals, even if you don't have a savanna view.
BWV: you are on the boardwalk, not much more to say lol.

Really depends on what you and your family want. I would do any of the three above.

i would usually vote for a resort you haven't stayed at, but you stayed at my top picks for a no-park stay (AKV, SSR).

you posted you stayed at AKL - have you stayed at kidani or jambo yet? either would be perfect :)

Weather permitting, I would do bcv. No need to do parks & can use bwv community hall. Akv & ssr are commonly available for the most part so I would save trying those for another time. Bcv is great if you want to hang by the pool all day.

Wilderness Lodge Villas. You haven't stayed there yet.

You don't want to do a park, but you can enjoy the fireworks from MK along the beach, take a boat ride, swim, go biking, fishing, take the tour of the lodge, hike to Ft Wilderness through the woods path or bike (lots of wildlife, do the pony rides at FW, or the horseback ride.) Visit BLT, eat at their QS, ride the boat back, watch the water parade at night, roast marshmallows at the Chip and Dale campfire at FW, watch the movie outside, eat at WC or AP or just Roaring Forks, sit and stare at the fireplace in the lodge, play chess or checkers in the common room at WLV, ride over to MK in the morning and watch the opening show from outside the fence (may be a little tough not to go in), ride the monorail, lie on a lounger in the sand, watch for bald eagles, did I say eat?

Since you haven't stayed at BCV, I would stay there. They have a great pool for hanging out all day. You can walk to Boardwalk. You can walk to the bridge at Epcot and watch the fireworks. A great location!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the suggestions. I like making informed decisions! We ended up with 2 nights at Saratoga Springs before the cruise and one night at AK-Kidani savanna view for the single night after. Here's hoping the good locations, pools and animals will keep our boys from missing the parks this trip!
