So I am up for a new phone soon and I am trying to decide what to get, I will either get an iphone or a droid. IF a get a droid I have no idea which one to get.

Anyone have any opinion on which droid it the best? What really are the differences in each.

My cousin just upgraded today to a Droid HTC Thunderbolt. She has been happily playing with it all day.

Which carrier? I like the new Charge , we have Verizon. Not that I own the charge, but it was fun to play with in the store. The Thunderbolt andf Charge are 4G...do you know if you want 3 or 4G?

I have no idea if I want to 3G or 4G. I honestly really don't know the difference.

there is so much to compare, I would do a Google search, literally Iphone vs. Doid 2011 and you will get a ton of hits. Start researching and reading reviews. You will come across comments that hopefully pertain to things you are looking for in a phone. 4G is fast, but really, not necessary. he data plan is the crummy part, $30 a month and that is not including your Texts...Verizon is uber-pricey that way.

I haven't looked at any of the new Droids but I have a Droid X and I LOVE it. The screen is so big, which is what sold me on the phone. DS18 has the original Droid with the slide out keyboard. It seems so small now :lmao:. I wasn't sure about the touch screen keyboard until I tried it--best thing ever. In landscape mode the keys are very big and easy to use. People complain about battery life but mine is pretty good for a smartphone. On Wednesday, for example, I had two phone interviews, used it quite a bit for texting, read emails, was on several websites looking up information, etc. and still had 50% battery life by the end of the day. I usually get two days out of one charge, sometimes a bit more. I just plug it in overnight and never have to worry about it. Smartphones in general don't have good battery life.

4G isn't worth the money if you don't have a 4G network in your area so look into that before you buy.

I just received my Samsung Droid Charge yesterday. So far, I love it! I came from a Blackberry. What a difference! I'm still figuring it all out, but so far so good.

There is a forum that has message boards for all of the android devices. It is www.androidcentral.com. You can look at all of the specific phone offerings and make your decision. They have reviews and real user comments.

My DH is a real technology geek. His take is that he would much rather have an Android phone over any iphone. Android runs in an open environment, which gives developers much more freedom when it comes to developing apps and other fixes for android phones. With iphone, you are limited to what is approved by Apple and placed in the app store. Also, technology advances at a really fast pace. He believes the technology of the iphone is 'old' at this point.

3G vs. 4G depends on where you live. If you are in a 4G area, I would get a 4G phone. The download speeds are much faster and it costs the same for the data plan (at least it does right now). Rumor has it that Verizon is going to be changing their unlimited data plan to a tiered pricing structure this summer. However, if you buy an unlimited plan now you will have unlimited data for at least two years.

Have fun making your decision. If I can answer any of your questions, let me know!

I'd go with the Charge. I'm planning on getting one in the next month or so. I was planning on the Thunderbolt but I've heard that the battery life is horrible.

Just a note on Insurance if you plan to take it out...the deductible for the IPhone with Verizon is $170, the Droids are $99. The monthly fee is a few dollars less as well for the droid vs IPhone. Our DS has the Fascinate, that screen is so great...even outside in the sun which is a huge plus to me. That would head toward the Droid Charge if wanting 4G, if staying 3G then I owuld get the Fascinate based on the amoled screen alone. Make sure it is updated to the 2.2 tho!

I would get a back up battery for either one. I did read that the charge is supposed to have addressed the batery issue, but while improved over the Thunderbolt, still not as long lasting as the older phones.

These are not the droids you are looking for

My wife and I just updated to the Samsung Fascinate and we really like them so far. You can update them to 2.2 over-the-air, but ours came with 2.2.

Just a note on my Charge battery life. Over the weekend, with moderate use (I've been playing with it a lot), my battery lasted 13 hours and I had about 20% left. Yesterday with light use after 14 hours, I had 73% left.

If and when I begin to use this for videos and music, I expect that that the total usage time available will drop. I did purchase an extra battery, but I'm not sure if I will really need it. It came with a package, so it wasn't like I was out any additional money.
