which double stroller should we get

I am looking at double strollers now for our June trip for my 5 and 7 year old GC. They are small at 35 and 50 lbs. I hate to rent as we will be there for 15 days so that adds up to alot of money. Can anyone recommend the best kind to look at for that size child. I see the Maclraen holds 55 lbs each seat but was wondering about the height. Thanks

I got a $90 front/back double stroller from Target (Envenflo I think) for my trip with my kids in January. It worked great. My kids are 40 pounds and 35 pounds.

My thoughts on the Twin Traveler by Mac. I have 3 kids, a 6 1/2yr old that is just over 48" tall, and she is 47lbs. An almost 4yr old that is almost 44" and 35lbs, and a 21mo old that is 35" and 28lbs. I can easily push any two of them in it. Even the 6yr old fits just fine and it is no harder to push her than the 3yr old. I have really thought the Mac was worth it. BUT, I don't think I would personally spend the money if I was only going to need it just for a few trips. If it were me, I would get something like the Triumph(2 of them) and then try the attachments to make them a double. Wishes for a Magical trip!

I'm taking our 5 and 7 year olds with a single MacLaren Volo - weight limit 55# and my DS at 7 is 49" and fits in it. It's light weight and at 5 and 7, they will be able to take turns. Don't know if your GCs are able to do that or not, but I'd avoid a double if you can. If you must get a double, the MacLaren's are much much much easier to push than cheap umbrella strollers (been there, done that, refuse to repeat it) and still fold relatively small. Most double strollers are a nightmare on WDW busses (been there too and refuse to repeat it.)

We have a peg pergo aira twin. We bought it with going to WDW in mind. It folds up pretty well (for a double) is light, pushes great, good room for the kids and looks pretty nice too. Reclines great so the kids can nap, and works good with children of differnt sizes, or only one kid. Also it has trays that can be removed (why I like it better then McClarn)

The 1st year we took it we only saw a few other people with one. The 2nd year we saw them EVERYWHERE!

The only real down side is the canapy doesn't really shade the children too well. I clip a blanket on it when they fall alseep.

I like it does't have a middle whelle (as combi does, people tend to kick it when walking.) You can keep a few things in the basket when you fold it, but not much. We hand a bag and a soft cooler off the back. I found the SBS isn't too hard to manage. It is the same size as a whelchair so if a place is HC accessable, you are fine.

My kids are currenlty 5 years old and 35 lbs 40 inch and 21 months old. Not sure how tall (she is a shorty) and 19 lbs. (I told you she was tiny! )

I would probably nix the idea of attaching two umbrella's together with kids at that weight. In my opinion.....I know renting is pricey, but it really is your best stroller option for older kids unless you want to spend $300

I guess you could sell it and get some money back once you return so it may not be too bad. Maybe see what they are selling for on Ebay.

You may find that you don't need a stroller everyday of your 15 days but even if you did rent all 15 days it's gonna run you around $210....Not positive if that is current price, just the price on allearsnet.com, but that was calculating at the rate of $15 a day and getting a $1 Disney dollar when you return the stroller daily. If you don't rent everyday, you can cut that quite a bit. My 5 and 7 year olds didn't use a stroller at all on our last trip. I had two strollers for my 3 yr old and 18 mth old. I think the 5 yr old did jump in on occasion that the 3 yr old was out. I think AK and Epcot are two parks where a stroller would likely be needed, but you may be able to get away without one at MK and possibly MGM. You may find they are fine without them when you get there and even if you pay in advance for the 15 days to save, I believe you can cash in your vouchers if you don't use them.

What about a baby's best friend or something like that? Those places that you can rent things like crib, stroller, high chair for the week? It might be less then renting from the parks, but you will have to carry it with you.

Strollers may be rented in each of the theme parks or at Downtown Disney.

Disney has a Length of Stay rental ticket for strollers and wheelchairs. With the Length of Stay rental, you make a one-time payment for as many days of rental that you will need. Upon visiting a theme park, show your receipt at the stroller/wheelchair rental location and you will be directed through the queue with little or no wait. There is a slight discount when purchasing the Length of Stay rental ticket. The Length of Stay option is NOT offered during peak attendance times, however, such as Christmas.

Stroller rentals cost (prices current as of January 2006):


At the theme parks:

Single or infant (newborn to 9 months) strollers: $10/day (no deposit) OR $8/day Length of Stay rental

Double strollers: $18/day (no deposit) OR $16/day Length of Stay rental

I have a Pergo Aria and it sucks. It's hard to push and gets stuck on every little thing. My DS isn't even 2 yet and we rarely use but it's ready for the garbage. Also the Sunshade does nothing.

I agree, I HATED my Peg Aria! I paid $330 for that thing I had to return 3 times. The 3rd time was the final time. I had sooo many problems with it! I wouldn't even get it if it were $100.

Wow, I am surprized. I love mine, had it for almost 2 years and it pushes like a dream. Never had one problem with it (but the sunshade is a bit little.) Other then that we have got our $300 out of it, maybe even twice now since this next trip will be it's 4th one to WDW.

GREAT idea about using it for the Bronx Zoo!!! Another use I will get out of it!!!

I don't know what was wrong with mine!!! I don't think it was meant to be for me to have that stroller. I LOVED it so much when I got it. But I had to return it THREE TIMES because of problems. Just my luck, right???

That stroller ias awful that's why! I also loved mine when I got it. But now I would rather have the Maclearan. I only bought the Aria becuase of the tray, the parent cupholder is useless too. I would absolutely advise the OP don't buy the Aria.

I did a very big stroller search before buying it (I don't spend $300 on a stroller lightly) and I read tons of reviews and talked to many people who had one. Every so often I would find someone like you who really didn't like it, but that was the minority. (heck maybe you were one of those people back then too, becuase I checked on Dis also.) Many Many people LOVED theirs, (like I do.) Although most people agree the sun shade is useless. I also heard a few reports that if you put too much (really load it down) in the basket it will drag and ripe. I have been careful not to do that. It might also depend when you bought it. I bought mine in 2001 and I hear some of the older models 2000 or it was 1999 had some issues that were fixed in the newer models. I don't think the parent cupholder is usesless (better then the combi one that only really holds water bottles and things with lids.) I think they should come up with something a bit better though. It does seem like the perfect stroller with EVERYTHING doesn't exsisit!

Sorry to hear you didn't like yours. Guess it goes to show what works for one person, might not for others. Mine still pushs like a dream. Very smooth and easy to move. SOOOOOO much easier then any other front back double stroller, and I think the combi double too. (I own a single combi also.) I never really consider the Maclearan because the tray is very important to me. One reason I have never bought one, but I have heard good reviews from people who own them. I want a peg pergo P3 now, but DD thinks we have enough strollers. The thing is the combi is showing its wear, it won't last as long as we still need a single stroller. Better to get it now and get more use out of it, but DH doesn't agree.
