We are leaving in a few weeks for Disney !! Which would you do - would you take cash or would you get a debit card with the cash on it?? Which do you think would be better and easier?? I know we would have to carry some cash with us but I kinda feel funny carrying alot around and thought this might be a better way to go. Not sure if it would be accepted. Please help!! THanks

Neither. I would carry a credit card with a low credit limit, instead.

Agree with the previous post... carry credit card

I believe if your credit card is lost or stolen you either don't have to pay any fee or a minimal $50 fee.

If your debit card is stolen, I think you are out of luck..

We bring about $400 and a credit card.

A pre paid debit card would be very difficult to replace - if not impossible. A debit card linked to your bank account can be shut down with one call to your bank. However, you probably will not have access again until you come home. Properly filed, any losses would not be yours.

I would recommend travelors checks - my bank (where I work) uses Amex and they are great to work with. They also now issue Prepaid cards although I'm not that familiar with them.

If you only carry cash, you have no protection if lost. If you don't have a credit card or are afraid of overspending - travelor's check or the prepaid Amex cards are great. You may have to pay a small fee (1%), but still worth it for the peace of mind. :hippie:

Are you staying on property? If so, don't carry anything in the parks except a little cash and put in all on your room key. Then you can pay that off at the end with cash or debit card.

I stay on property, so I use my room key most of the time. I also carry a little cash and a low-limit credit card in case I buy something they make more sense for or if the room-key reader is down at a snack stand and I need a few dollars.

If I was off-property, it'd be the credit card and a little cash.

Even though we have a well used check card, and even though we used it quite a few times last trip, I still took most of our spending money in travelers checks. I liked being able to parcel out the checks into my Passporter for ADRs and such. It also kept us from over spending on our check card!:) I know alot of people like to charge things to their room via their room card as well, but there is just NO WAY I'd trust my spend happy crowd! :teeth: Especially my son!;)

We're a big fan of travellers cheques too. I bring some cash, but at least 75% is travellers cheques. I usually pay for the room with them too and then put the maximum on as "Credit" so we can just use our room keys. I of course have the credit card as backup.
