We are visiting Disneyland next month for 2 nights, October 12-14. While we have visited the parks one time before we have never stayed on property. We have been to WDW more times than we can count and have stayed at all but 3 of the resorts there. That being said, if you could spend two nights at any of the hotels which one would you stay at and why? All three seem to have their own charm and I just can't decide! :confused3

Thanks!

For us it's between DLH an GC. The Disneyland hotel reminds me of the Disney of my childhood. The Grand Californian reminds me of the post-Pixar Disney ... and the Paradise Pier reminds me of the 90s Disney.

For what it's worth, we're staying at the DLH this fall, likely the last time until our kids graduate. They're getting old enough that I'm guessing the DLH will be too cheesy for them next year, whereas the GC is much cooler in their eyes.

GC but I can never justify those rates, for any of the Dis hotels. I just got an itch to upgrade to one for our trip and read some reviews and that cured it.

What's funny is I remember staying the Disneyland Hotel as a kid maybe 35 years ago and thinking it was a little seedy then!

...."seedy" ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Have been staying at the DisneyLand hotels for years. A couple times we chose to stay at a good neighbor MOTEL, those ideas were poor choices. We have always enjoyed the disney hotels a great deal, all the amenities are quite nice. The disneyland hotel is our favorite, the new waterslides & pool, as well as the new rooms are great.....:cool1:

GCH to be right in the middle of everything, short walks to both parks and DTD. If you have little kids DLH for the stronger Disney theme. Although my 5 year old also loved GCH and I got a big awwww when she found out we are not staying there our next trip.

Enjoy your visit.

Yes. None of the original 1955 buildings remain. It was like a motel back then, I think. I recall the bathroom didn't even have real walls, just like a partition that didn't extend to the ceiling, almost like you'd see in a bathroom stall now.

GCH reminds me a lot of WL; you have stayed at WL (according to your signature). I don't think there is any WDW resort that reminds me of DLH. And I would really only choose between those two; I am not a PPH lover. So, my choice would be DLH. And it is all fresh & shiny. And has really cool headboards. :thumbsup2

just a thought Laura but I hope you have made reservations at least for one of the hotels because most everything has been booked up:confused:

If you can afford the nightly rate at the Grand then you should stay there! It has the best location and stunning decor. My kids love the bunkbeds, the pool, and watching the monorail glide past our room. It also has my favorite grab and go food area at Whitewater Snacks.

Of the three onsite hotels, there isn't a terrible choice to be made. Personally, I prefer them in this order: GC, DLH, PP. The pricing shows that most people agree.

The Grand for two nights is easier to budget for compared to a longer stay. I don't think there's such a thing as a bad Disney vacation, so you'll have fun no matter where you stay.

Having stayed at all 3 my favourite would be the GCH. Just that much closer to the park and in the middle of all the action. Even DH who grumbles about how much it costs said on our last visit that he'd rather stay fewer days and stay at the GCH. We stayed at the DLH recently since it was the only one we hadn't stayed in and we thought we would give it a try. I was a little disappointed but I think that was because being the DLH, I was expecting a little bit more "Disney Magic". I think I also realized that I do like being able to at least open a window which you can't do at the DLH (GCH has a balcony that you can step out onto).Don't get me wrong, it's a really nice hotel and if you do choose DLH, I'm sure you will love it. I found the employees at the Grand and PP much more friendlier. The new pool area at the DLH is really nice and if you are travelling with kids they will enjoy the waterslides.

Thank you for all of the comments! I called Disney travel last night and asked about discounted rates. I too had heard there wasn't much vacancy. I was suprised to find out there was actually quite a bit. My daughter, who is 26 and will be there with us, works in the travel industry and can get us a discount on the higher tier rooms (the ones with the views). I love the theming of the DLH but love the atmosphere of the GCH but not the price. I also love the closeness of the GCH and it would be an easy walk back after the Halloween party. Trying to decide if the GCH is worth the extra $275. What do you think? There are no little ones traveling with us, just myself, DH, and adult DD.

Aloha,

For trips to and from DLH and DL the Monorail is real close to DLH. Also, I think the DLH is better for younger children.

Absolutely worth every penny. Especially if your daughter can get you into Concierge Level. We did a girlfriends trip this year and stayed there and it was heaven! It's such a different trip without kids. You can really, really relax and take advantage of all the lounge has to offer. It's also got incredible views of fireworks, etc.

If you had little kids with you, I would have gone with DLH. It's just so magical there. GC is wonderful too, but more sedate and calm. DLH is all out FUN FUN FUN.

Now that I know there are no young kids with you and you can get a deal, I would definately recommend the GCH. While we had a nice stay at the DLH this time around, the GCH is our favourite. A bunch of little touches that make our stay special and the location can not be beat.

GCH !

IMO it is the most beautiful. It is the closest to the parks. And it has the nicest rooms, and best restaurants. Plus the lobby, oh the lobby all of its beauty. I enjoy just sitting by the fire, or listening to the piano player while relaxing in the evening.

I just adore it !:lovestruc

GCH is really nice and Ive stayed there a few times but im a kid at heart and absolutely ♥ ♥ ♥ the DLH...and now since they upgraded the rooms and you get the goodnight kiss...I would definitely choose DLH:cloud9:
