Okay so we booked a 5 day Disneyland Resort trip for the first week of August. We understand it will be busy which is why we added an extra day. We booked through Disney and got a deluxe view room at the Disneyland Hotel. We understand it is a pool view floors 4-7, but does anyone have any experience with this? Can we ask for a higher room/Downtown Disney view/pick a tower? If we are able to pick a tower with a pool view which one should we pick? I understand that the Adventure tower is the Downtown Disney tower, so should I request that one in hopes "fingers crossed" I can just ask for a room facing DTD?
This is my husband's first time staying in the Disneyland Hotel, and I want him to get the best possible for what we already paid for. He is an uber Disney fan like myself so he is super excited :) Sorry for all the questions in one thread.

I've only stayed in the Frontier tower (standard room) and it would be my 3rd pick. We are staying again in October in a deluxe view and am hoping for Adventure tower, preferably facing DTD. If no DTD view would be happy with either fantasy tower or Adventure tower. Frontier seemed just a fraction too far away, the last one or two hundred yards were killers!

Might go for valet parking this time too as the carpark is a long way away...

The Adventure and Fantasy towers are closest to Downtown Disney. We ended up in the Fantasy tower, but honestly, they're all fairly close together. The pools and restaurants are in the middle. The main self-park area is closest to the Fantasy tower, but the Frontier tower has limited parking (26 spots) right outside the door, so if you keep an eye on that lot (we were able to see it from our room), you can often find open spots (mostly during the day). If you are staying in the Frontier Tower, self-parking, and unable to find a spot outside the door, I would recommended parking in the Paradise Pier Hotel parking garage, which is closer to the Frontier Tower than the DLH main self-parking area.

We always stay in the Fantasy tower. Close to everything and since it has the lobby you always see characters down by the elevators. We only have stayed in standard view rooms (the parking lot). However, we were able to see the fireworks.

I would try for the Fantasy Tower. We stayed in the Frontier Tower and not only is it the farthest away, but more than that it seems odd entering to what is essentially an empty lobby. Yes there is a model of the BTMR, but that doesn't replace actually entering into an actual lobby with shops, pictures, restaurants, etc.

We were there last week and have stayed there every year for the past 6 years. We always get a lower level pool view room. The pool view is very nice since the upgrade. We were upgraded to a higher level room last year in the Frontier Tower, and could see DTD and DL as well as the pool from our higher window. That was nice, but I would have preferred the Fantasy Tower with the lower level room.

We surprisingly have never been in the Adventure Tower. We have only been in the Fantasy and Frontier towers. We prefer the Fantasy Tower, it is the building with the lobby and shops, and also a closer walk to DTD and the parks than the Frontier Tower. Those extra steps are a pain when you have been in the parks from open to close. Also Goofy shows up in the lobby there quite a bit and it is fun to accidentally run into him when you are coming and going to your room. We don't care for Frontier because it is farther, but depending on what you like, it is fine too. Frontier Tower is right by the Trader Sam's bar which is a fun place and also right by a pool entrance. That part of it is nice, but it would still be our 3rd choice because it is farther from the shops and a longer walk. Adventure Tower is between the other 2 towers. It would be a good choice as well because it is right next to the building with the lobby and shops, not far from Trader Sam's and still a shorter walk to DTD/parks than Frontier. Really even if you get stuck in the Frontier it will be great. The rooms are fabulous, the lower pool views are great, and the resort is great.

I don't think they will put you in a DTD view room if you ask when you didn't pay for that category. They might upgrade you, but I don't think it is likely. When we arrived this year, we specifically requested not to be in the Frontier Tower if at all possible. We were there in the morning and our room was not ready, so they easily accommodated us. When your room is not ready, they give you your keys and then they text or call you later to give you your room number. I'm pretty sure had we not made the request, we would have been in Frontier, because when they called us, they told us that we needed to come back to the desk to get new keys as ours would not work for the room they put us in. I would bet that if you are arriving early they will try to put you in the tower you request; however, if you are there later at night when most of the rooms have already been assigned and are occupied your chances of getting a change if you are in a Tower you do not want are not that good.

Have a great trip! All the 60th anniversary stuff is terrific. I almost cried when I saw the castle all fancied up in person. The Paint the Night parade is the best parade I have ever seen at a Disney park!!! If you can do the later parade, it is a whole lot easier to get a spot on Main Street with less wait. The new fireworks are fabulous!!! We saw them from the Blue Bayou Fantasmic Dining package area and loved it. The special effects in that area were great. We were going to see them again to get the Main Street special effects experience the next night, but they were cancelled.

Can someone tell me how to request a tower other than upon checkin? I'm used to WDW where you can note preferences on your online checkin, but did not believe there was a similar function at DLR. Thanks!

On one of my more recent stays, we were 'upgraded' from a standard to a deluxe room/pool view. It was in the Frontier Tower~ At first, I was a little disappointed because of what seemed like the farther distance. We visit WDW pretty often, and I have to say, the Frontier Tower is hardly far compared to some of the distances at WDW resorts (if anyone is comparing). However, I really ended up liking the room location and view. It was a higher floor and I had a great view of the pool area, the two other towers, and the tiki torches/Trader Sam's which we loved. Nothing beats the convenience of the Fantasy Tower, but the Frontier Tower isn't a bad option in my opinion. We love the DL Hotel, so it's all good. :)

You can call the hotel directly, Phone:(714) 778-6600, and ask that they note your preference in your reservation record.

For the OP, in terms of getting an upgrade to a DTD facing room if you paid for pool facing room, I think that is unlikely. More likely to get an upgrade from lower level pool facing room to one on a higher floor. But upgrades are something nice that sometimes happens. I never count on them. Overall, IMHO all the towers at DLH are great. I have stayed there 6 times since the renovation and have been in each tower. They are all just a one or two minute walk from one another.
