Which DVC Rental Brokers have the best data security practices with respect to handling personal information? I recently contacted a major broker, well known here, and had to break off the agreement conversation when I learned they send contract agreements as clear-text email / attachments.

Which brokers are capable of (at minimum) using an encrypted-PDF when communicating via email or, perhaps, use a secure website interface for passing documents w/out email?

Thank you!

Not sure why you are that bothered. If it's the main broker, the email contract they send you contains your name, address and telephone number. I can find your name and address usually within minutes with a simple internet search if I am that bothered to get it. In the extremely unlikely event that someone intercepts your email, I'm not sure what they would really be able to do with it. If it were bank details etc, I could understand, but this is very basic details.

That's my thought as well. The contracts for the rental agency I have used only contain general information, nothing that I would be concerned even if accidentally sent to the wrong recipient.

The main thing that needs to be secure are the payment gateways.

Very few TAs, even the biggest ones who work with corporate clients, transmit all documents and confirmations securely. For that matter, Disney themselves, if you book a cash room... transmit the confirmation ID cleartext in email.

So no concern for matching our names (both owners) along with address, phone numbers (including my cell, typically not available for easy viewing), my "emergency contact" info (relative with phone/email), and DVC account number / resort / UY / annual allocation, etc. ? Hmm, I'm just not comfortable with all that info at once w/out it being at least a password protected PDF format.

Just ask the they overnight the documents, you may have to pay for the postage.

FYI - did you know that Disney/DVC shares your info with outside 3rd parities if you don't opt out. The opt out form is included with your dues info each year.

Don't underestimate what data is available against just your email address. I could pull your cell and address on email address alone, along with vehicle registrations. All via legal database access.

Your DVC member number isn't all that valuable to bother with. Credit card numbers are where people put in effort for data pilfering.

Agreed. All the more reason not to send the contract / agreement w/out encryption. Ok, we've decided to pass on point rentals via broker for the time being until things improve.

I can absolutely assure you, I can easily find much more about you than what may be on such an email. You are worrying too much.

Spot on. I deal with this sort of thing for a living.

me too. People underestimate how much data can be put against just an email address. Use it just once to order Amazon Pantry, and someone can practically model what kind of underpants you wore last Thursday.
