Some of the discount car rental places have very poor reviews, are there any that you would recommend? I don't want to spend a lot, its just for 1 person, would prefer in terminal. Thanks!

Not sure which ones are considered discount but we used Dollar last week and were very pleased. I went to carrentalsaver.com then checked back daily (sometimes multiple times a day) to see if there was anything cheaper. I ended up getting our rate 48 hours before our trip then I stopped looking because I was afraid to change so close to the trip.

I would recommend that you read the thread that corresponds with your month of travel. People always share great codes. You have to check daily to get the best rate!

If you are a member of Sam's or Costco check their sites. I reserved an SUV through Sam's for my family and saved almost $50 from regular price posted at Avis. And all the rest of the car rentals were higher especialy National and Hertz which were over $150 for same vehicle. If concerned about poor reviews for discounts sites stick with the bigger 1's; but you need to trust your feelings about reviews and also take them with a grain of salt

I agree with PP, reviews are each individuals own feelings about their experience. I would be worried though if when reading reviews they were all bad. I had booked a minivan with one company (off-site), the cheapest price I got was $161 for 11 nights, Aug 5-11 but when I went and checked the reviews they were all so bad and mostly were about hidden charges that I ended up cancelling with them.

I am booked through Costco now and have a midsized SUV for the dates above with Alamo (so on-site) for $342 which I am still hoping might come down a little but at 2 weeks out maybe not!

Our favorites are Alamo and National, super easy check-in and pick your own vehicle from the aisle of cars in the size that you booked. Sometimes not the cheapest but I'm willing to pay a little more to avoid the line up at the counter and getting to pick from a variety of vehicles.
That being said, if Hertz, Budget or Dollar are a lot cheaper, I'd go with one of them (my loyalty has a dollar limit)
Whichever rental company you choose, join there free loyalty program as they usually have some kind of system in place for members to speed the checkout process and get you started on your vacation.

I always take any negative reviews with a grain of salt. Read the review for what it is, which is someones opinion of their particular transaction at that particular time and place. Try to see what the real issue was, not what the person started getting upset about. Usually someone is having a bad day and things don't go quite as planned when they arrive. (Like the way life throws you curve balls occasionally). Many of these negative reviews are from people who then think it is their mission to singlehandedly try and take down the establishment.

Stuff happens in life, roll with the punches and enjoy the good things, you'll live longer and get less frown lines ;) ;) ;)

Dollar let me go right to the garage and choose any car from our size and also whispered to me if I didn't like anything in my purchased standard that I could choose a mid size. We were happy with standard.
