which dinner at AKL

Just wondering what restaurant people suggest for our first night arriving at AKL??
Have never stayed onsite before!!!

We love Boma, I would have a hard time paying OOP for it though. If you're on the DDP that would be my suggestion. Jiko is wonderful too. But personally I would save that for another night when you're not worn out from traveling. Enjoy your trip!

I would head over to Kidani and have dinner at Sanaa. We personally don't like buffets, especially on arrival days and as the PP said your better off saving Jiko until another night when you are more relaxed so you can really enjoy it. Sanaa has good food and a nice atmsophere.

Thanks...we arent planning on doing the disney dining plan as we are only there for a few nights....but now you have me considering it.
How much does it work out to be per person per day?
we also have two character meals booked so it may be worth it?

It is charged per night you are staying at disney.

We are doing Jiko on our arrival night this Saturday but I wish I had booked Sanaa instead.

Jiko is more upscale and the adults in my group always enjoy it. But Sanaa is more unique and the kids like it better (we did this for our arrival dinner 2 trips ago).

Boma is also nice and we used to eat our arrival dinner here every vacation but we do not eat enough food to justify the cost of this buffet any longer.

All 3 restaurants have above average food. I'd pick whichever menu appeals to you the most.

Boma by far. Eaten there twice LOVE IT a little pricey but man the food is so good and there is something for everyone.We did Sanaa on our entry night in September and it was nice but Boma is much nicer food selection.

I don't think you can go wrong with the dining options at AKL. Boma is our favorite restaurant on property (that may change as we are trying Cali Grill and Yachtsmans for the first time this trip ). We've never done Jiko or Sanaa but they get consistently good reviews, so much that I almost canceled Yachtsman to book Jiko. Enjoy your stay, I have always wanted to stay at AKL!

You can always add the deluxe DDP, that gets you 3 TS credits per day. If you are already doing 2 diff signature meals it probably makes sense to go with the deluxe, but it costs around $75 per person/adult per day. And are you sure 3 nights doesn't qualify for free dinning? I checked 3 nights for the promotion and although it says you need to book 4 nights, you can still get free dinning for 3 nights. I'd double check, then pay the upgrade to get deluxe dinning.l

I just came back from AKL and ate at Jiko and Sanaa-ate at Boma 6 months ago. I'd definitely go with Sanaa if you want a quiet meal, Boma if you want light, bright, and a wide variety of food, maybe trying to please some less-adventuresome palates. Unfortunately, I can't recommend Jiko, based on my dining there 3 weeks ago. Everyone at the table agreed that the meal was just "OK" and the fish was downright dry and disappointing.

They are all fabulous restaurants, but I have to vote Sanaa. Buffets are a bit much for me on an arrival day and, I agree, Jiko should be saved for another night (it's fabulous!) Sanaa has fantastic food, is very relaxed and has an amazing view of the animals on the savannah. Especially if you are staying at Jambo, heading over to Sanaa at Kidani is a great way to tour the whole resort on your first day and take in what it has to offer. If you are tired, you can take a bus or shuttle over to Kidani from Jambo. have fun!

All three places are good, but I love Sanaa and Jiko much more than Boma.

I agree with Pakey though - check out the menus and see which appeals to you most. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Thanks...I priced it out and with our kids being so young the room only discount works out to be much cheaper!

Boma for a more casual dinner, it's the "only" Disney buffet we still do! My friends have picky eaters who are considered adults, so they won't go, so we don't do it often.

Jiko for a more adult, even possibly romantic, quiet dinner paired with red wine, though I do take my son (15), he's quite the foodie!

Still haven't tried Sanaee

For our trip I have Sanna for the first night and then Jiko's for the last night. I'm going to try tusker house this trip instead of Boma's.I also booked the breakfast safari and I'm trying to talk myself into the sunset safari. Though this isn't really a budget trip in anyway I'm also planning wedding for next year so I have a small voice in my head that is trying to be budget friendly. I also have another voice that has big shopping plans and says you only live once. We will see who wins.

I'll never forget the first time I ate at Jiko. We had reservations at Boma for dinner, and, wow, what a crowd waiting to get in! So, we began waiting for our name to be called, and 45 minutes later went to check back with the hostess to see if they had forgotten us. She said that they were very busy, and it would probably be another 15-20 minutes, or, they had a table available immediately in Jiko. We looked at the menu and thought, what the heck, let's give it a shot. It was very good, and because it was just the two of us, we actually preferred it since Boma was just flat out crazy and loud. From that point on we started saying that Boma meant "screaming five-year-old' in Swahili.

In all seriousness, Boma is one of my favorite places to eat at The World, but it is quite loud and alive with traffic. So, either restaurant gets my vote, it just depends on your budget and preferred atmosphere for the evening. You can't go wrong with either one.
