Which Digital SLR??????

I'm looking to get a digital SLR for about £250 and was wondering if anyone can recommend a camera that will allow me to pre-select the metering so I can take things like fireworks or fast moving rides, I'm fed up of missing shoots while waiting for my camera to check the light levels before taking the picture.

well I don't know how much that is much I am an Olympus addict. They ahve some great point and shoots that you can change all the metering and stuff. My MIL just bought an advanced P&S like this one. http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1188

it has a hot shoe for an external flash and you can add lens and all kinds of stuff.

you can buy it at B&H photo for a decent price for under $400 with lots of extras or for $240 with just the basics.

I have just been on some sites and i don't think you will get an SLR with basic lens for under £400-£450. I bought the nikon D50 and 18mm-55mm lens for £449 a few weeks ago from jessops.

You can't get one (including a bsic decent lens) for that price. Sorry, can't help there.

YOu could try and get one through Ebay.

I had a digital rebel last year when I got the idea of upgrading. My friends were jumping in with their 20D and 350XT DSLRs and I was feeling a need to change things a bit. I wanted a BLACK camera and I really wanted a solid and substantive magnesium body. The D-rebel I had gave me body creaking when I held the camera firmly against my eye. Then on the other hand I was getting tired of the 50-75% depreciation after 1-2 years too. SO I was reluctant to toss away more money after an item that depreciated faster than a car!

So I hit on the idea of possibly selling my newer D-rebel at abour 40% less than what I paid to acquire a 10D for about 75% off. And that is exactly what I did. I sold the rbel for $500 and acquired a 10D for $550. I was lucky and the 10D looks in better condition than my rebel was.

One thing to keep in mind if you shop for a 10D - and that is it will not take a EF-S lense. Some folks have CUT OFF the back of the EFS 18-55 kit lense as a dirt cheap wide angle solution. You can google search it or PM me for a link. I did NOT take this radical approach to obtaining wide angle coverage. I bought a 20-35 for 2.5x the money and am happy with it. I feel it is sufficiently contrasty and pin sharp. A good sample. he lense gets good ratings on Fred-Mirdanda.com. AND as a word of warning... I just bought a 28-105 MK 1 lense and it was a bad copy. The seller listed good feedback history on 230 transactions, had a number of selling entries in feedback and stated in 3 places on the listing that they would honor a refund if DOA on arrival. Well - it was DOA on arrival and they renigged on the refund offer. SO I am in the ending stages of procesing a refund through Paypal. I was straight-forward except for the need to get a repair estimate. It was in fact easy for ME to get the estimate but I suspect it would be a bit harder to get a qualified repair estimate for many other folks. The repair estimate calls for $120 when I paid only $132 for the lense. SO - I expect a refund any day now less the $25 deductible fee from paypal. And not every lisitng qualifies for the paypakl protection.

My other lense is a brand new 70-300 IS. It cost me $565 from B&H in NY. SO my bargain body swap enabled me to drop $1000 getting 3 lenses... the 20-35; 70-300 IS; and a soon to be had 28-105. All have pretty good reviews on Fred-miranda but are among the cheaper examples in their respective focal ranges.

Hope a $450-500 used rebel body is a consideration - as that is close to 250 pounds today. Your strong pounds go a long way in the USA. Just watch out for bad sellers - be paranoid.

Yeah, too bad I just sold my dRebel black body with battery grip on eBay last week. But still you'll need a lens, though.

I would get a D-50 over a 300d(drebel 1).

Buydig has it for $389(usd), refurbished body only. Less than some Drebel1 Ebay prices.

one thing, make sure you ask what is the shutter usage from the seller. If it is lower than 3,000 then it's a good thing. If it is closer to 10,000 then it's a bad thing.
