Which digital Camera?

Dfi and I were at Best Buy today haggling over which digital camera to buy for our upcoming honeymoon and also for business use. We need something that can shoot action VERY well (maybe with an adjustable shutter) and has a good zoom (looked at a few with teh optical zoom). We shoot action shots at home of the horses for sale ads we post and would like it for shooting rides, parades and fireworks etc at Disney. We liked the Canon and the Kodak. Any suggestions or reviews of those from my fellow DIS'ers?

You are going to most likely need a true Digital SLR like the Cannon Digital Rebel. I have the Canon Digital Elph for when we need a small one to carry around and I just got the Canon S1 becuase I wanted something with a larger zoom and that would let me adjust shutter speed, aperature, ISO etc. While I like to S1 and it fits my needs but it is not well suited to action shots. It only takes 1.7 frames per second but that isn't the worst part. The biggest problem is that both the LCD on the back and viewfinder you look through (Also a LCD) don't let you track a subject while shooting multiple shots. Both displays momentarily show you the last picture you took making it almost impossible to track a moving subject for multiple shots.

I tried it out a few times to get a handle on it. It can shoot reasonable well indoors for a single shot. It also worked well shooting multiple shots (up to 10) when I kept the camera staionary. I used it at one of my sons hockey practices and it worked well but it was impossible to track a subject for multiple shots. The other problem is the auto focus doesn't work well when tracking a moving subject.

The true digital SLRs on the other hand are better suited to action shots. Unfortuantely they cost more and are larger. For us the S1 worked out well due to the price, $309 after rebates, and that it used compact flash memory that is the same as our Digital Elph. I also liked that it was 3.2 mega pixels. That is all we need and we can store more images on less memory.

I have a Minolta 7Hi. I LOVE it for actions shots. It can take up to 7 frames per second. I take pictures at my daughter's soccer games and it does a fantastic job at freezing the ball. It has an adjustable shutter but I don't know much about photography (YET!) so I have only used the preset settings. In my opinion, the cons are: large size for traveling and low light causes the action shots to blur considerably (slows the shutter?) I did purchase an auxillary flash recently to try for some night games this fall. I'm hoping it works well.

The Canon Powershot A95. I'm loving it

This little beauty is small enough to fit in a fanny pack, but versatile enough to accept other lenses, and do some fancy schmancy shooting, if you're in the mood. Otherwise, just turn the dial to AUTO and snap away.

I can't wait to take this baby with me to WDW in July.

We have the Kodak DX6490 and I love it! It has 10x optical zoom and does pretty well for us. I have taken pics of the boys swinging and running and it does fine. It is a little slow between taking pics though, but not bad.

Check out some of the manual settings. I would bet you can adjust the ISO and set it on shutter priority with a higher shutter speed so that you don't get the blur in low light action shots.

i just bought a digital camera for my upcoming trip next month. got the 5.0 megapixel Kodak LS753. its very tiny, so it can fit in your pocket and has all the necessary features you need for taking pictures at the parks. even has a FIREWORKS mode for WISHES! i like the camera a lot so far, got it on EBAY at a very reasonable price.

I just bought the same camera. Haven't used it much yet, I've just been doing a lot of reading and playing with it and it does seem easy to use. I'll be taking it on our trip in June. I paid 199.00 for it at Circuit City. I thought that was a great deal also.

I have used a Nikon 3700 the last fw trips and loved it, very compact (the main reason i bought it) and easy to use. The colors were excellent and the cost was fantastic $120 after a $100 rebate. 600x480 video at 30fps, perfect for shooting character interactions. The only thing I did not like was the zoom did not operate in the video setting, so I just purchased a Minolta Z3 and using it at the local amusement park i think I found a decent upgrade, even though I prefer my little Nikon for convience this camera is performing well for better videos with zoom.

REad the guides and visit stores and then select what type of camera best fits your needs - easy point and shoort or a Digital SLR with all the bells and whistles. Everyone is looking for something a little different.
