Which deluxe resort has the best standard room?

As some of you may already know, I'm debating between AKL and WL. So my quesiton is this...does one of these resorts have a better standard room in regards to views than the other? I've read several times that at WL, some standard rooms will have views of roof or loading docks. Is this the same for AKL? Just wondering. TIA

I think that's pretty much true for a standard room at any deluxe. They are the lowest priced, thus, the "poorest" view.

Well, in terms of the the quality of a "standard" room at the WL and AKL, AKL definitely has a nicer room, the rooms are newer and more unique, nicer than probably some of the more expensive "deluxe" resorts. As far as the "standard view" of each resort, I feel they are about the same. You probably have a "better" chance of getting a nicer standard view at the WL because of the layout of the resort. Most rooms at the WL overlook some type of vegetation, not just parking lots, whereas, the AKL has mostly savannah views, there are not as many "standard" view rooms and almost all look over the parking lot or bus stop! If you stay at the AKL, you really need to get a pool or savannah view!

We just returned from the WL. Due to me booking about 3 weeks before we left, a standard view was all they had left. I was quite nervous about the view and whether I would like it. Last year we were in a Courtyard view room. Well, I couldn't have asked for any better standard view room!!! We were on the side facing the pond/Magic Kingdom. We were on the 5th floor, room 5062 and could see the Contemporary, the monorail, and the castle. We watched the fireworks from our room balcony one night. It was the most bang for my buck!!!!! Hope this helps!!

Thank you for the replies. Unfortunately, I think I'm helpless! I hear so many good things about both resorts, that I'm just having a hard time choosing. I can't decide if I would be better off doing a water view at Coronado or a standard view at either AKL or WL. Anyway...thanks for listening!

I personally wouldn't pay extra for a water view at any of the mods. The reason for this is there are no private balconies at mods. If I get a waterview, then I want to be able to sit outside and really enjoy it. IMHO, mod upgrades and the cost difference don't compare to deluxes.

As far as, WL that would be my choice as far as convenience and I'd ask for the best possible view available for a standard. Of course, you can't depend on what that will be. But, chances sound pretty good according to roozlilone and DisneyFan79.

As far as, AKL you might have the greatest chance for a complementary upgrade. But you can't depend on that either.

I'd just make a choice and be happy with what you get and hope for an upgrade. You might even ask for a complimentary upgrade (or improved view). You might have to offer that you are willing to change room locations on the 2nd or 3rd night. AKL moved us for the second night. We had to check out and recheck in which only amounted to us exchanging room keys and moving our stuff.

I would say the Dolphin has the nicest, largest and most comfortable rooms. You may not have the theme of the AKL or WL but the larger size and luxury-theme are great!

Between the AKL and WL, I would go with the AKL as the view is something out of the ordinary and the rooms are newer.
