Which deck do you prefer your room to be on and why? I am happy with what we were assigned by DCL, but know I won't be able to afford this spot again and just looking for other choices for next time.

Decks 1 and 2 are some of the best in my opinion.....they are close most everything and when you come back from a port they are the most convenient...you just walk down the hall to your room...never need to wait for an elevator.

Actually, the only time we used the elevators was if we were going all the way up to Deck 9 or 10. Other than that we just took the stairs to dinner, movie, theatres, guest service, pictures, shops, etc.

We have stayed on almost every deck and really enjoy Decks 1 and 2...and no...you are not below the water line!!!!

We were at the stern on Deck 7 and loved it. Only two flights up the "secret" backstairs to Deck 9 and pools, buffet, ice cream, etc.

Far less foot traffic back there as well, and a hidden public verandah that was basically our own private deck since nobody went there.

Thanks....I'll be watching for more replies. How many stairs would you say is in a "flight" ? Is it better to take them instead of the elevator? I hear the elevators can be crowded or busy.

Deck 5, Deck 5, Deck 5!!!
Because there are less staterooms, there is much less hallway traffic, meaning more peace and quiet. And in the aftmost part of the ship, there are only staterooms on one side of the hall. That's why 5650 is my favorite stateroom. I hate hallway noise, and it's quiet as a church back there.

inkkognito...I wondered why you always got that room. That sounds good. I was thinking that the kids clubs were on that level so it might be more traffic and noise, but I have never been on the ship before so I have no clue as to what it looks like or where things are located. Thanks for that info!:)

PS Our church isn't very quiet!

We were on Deck 5 Forward last year and liked the room and deck. It was, though, a bit of a haul to the area we found ourselves mostly which was Deck 9 Aft, by the Mickey pool. I did like going right down the stairs to Deck 4 for the walking area and the shops. The kids clubs did not interfere with the serenity of Deck 5.

Next week we will be on Deck 7 midship. I expect this will be a really convenient location. Just run up the stairs to Deck 9 for the pool and for food, etc... will have to get back to you on that one to see if we liked it better there. We sprung for a verandah room so I don't expect to be on the Secret Deck 7 Aft too much, however we are having a Dis meet there for drinks which should be fun!

I thought that "quiet as a church" might not be an apt anaology just as I hit the submit button! I guss I should have specified "a deserted church out in the middle of nowhere at midnight." ;)

Even though the kids clubs are on Deck 5, they are so well separated that you'd never even know they are there. The only time I ever hear anyone is around safety drill time on the first day, when people are wandering around and getting lost.

If you are aft, you do hear the thrusters when the ship is docking. I like white noise so that doesn't bother me at all. It's only people running and talking that gets to me. But if you stay forward on deck 5, you won't even hear the engines.

I like cat 9 rooms on deck 2 simply because I think it's the best value on the ship - short of scoring a secret porthole room.

I like white noise too and hallway noises would bother me more. Thanks for all the great advice. Are the toilets considered white noise? I understand they are quite loud! ;)

Sam,
How do you figure Deck 2 Cat 9 is a better value? Are those rooms less expensive than other Cat 9 rooms? TIA.

WE loved Deck 6 midship verandah room. Had the verandah and was perfect for us.

I think they meant that a Cat 9 on Deck 2 is a better value than Cat 8 on other decks.....since they are exactly the same size room.

MJ

I have to say Deck 6 midship. We were very close to the stairs and the elevator.

mmouse37,
Thanks. Question for you = do you prefer the Western or Eastern Carribean? TIA. :boat:

I've been on Deck 6 mid-ship twice and Deck 7 aft once, and I loved both. For the upcoming cruise, I'll be on Deck 5 aft, and I suspect I'll love that, too!

The church that I attend is the creepiest, scarriest place to be when you are in the building late at night by yourself or with a few other people. :scared: :scared: The ship is NOTHING like that:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I agree that they are the best "value" on the ship. This is a subjective call based on personal preferences. I've stayed in cat 11 and 10 (inside) and a cat 10 SPH room. What you get with a cat 9 that you don't get with 10-12 is outside light. Never been on a veranda. But have never been one to hang out in my room while on the ship. The cat 9 rooms are a LOT less expensive than any veranda room and they don't cost that much more than the inside staterooms. That's where the "value" comes in. I believe that most people forget that there are cat 9 rooms on deck one, so if you forget about those, all of the cat 9 rooms are on deck 2 (so saying cat 9 on deck 2 is somewhat redundant.)

The cat 9 through cat 12 rooms seem to be more or less close in price. I like the split bathrooms and natural windows, so for a 7 day cruise I typically book a cat 9.

It's definitely a better value over a cat 8. No way I'd pay several hundred $$ for the same room on a higher deck. But I do think cat 9 is worth the extra $$ over an 11 - usually.

As jrabbit said, it's fairly subjective and just my opinion.

We were on deck 6 aft on the Wonder. Very close to stairs and elevators, so we thought it was a great location. Loved it so much we booked the same room on the Magic! Only I am not sure I can wait until December 2005.

(Am claustrophobic so I love the veranda!)
