I have read good things about Chef Mickey's (although I have also heard it's a little wild!) and Cape May. Which do you think is better? I would take 3 year old DD on a non-park day. Are there any other places for non-park character breakfasts?

We took DD3goingon23 to Chef Mickey's. Yes, it was a little wild, and before we were seated, she got a little spooked by Goofy. Looking back, I don't think I would go to Chef Mickey's as a first character meal.

Don't get me wrong -- she loosened up, thanks to Chip and Dale, and by the time Minnie came around she was ready to do her hoochie-mama dance! She ended up loving Chef Mickey's.

We also did the Princess Breakfast at Norway - which is not a non-park event, but similar. She really loved that one. It was quieter, the featured attractions were real people instead of characters, etc. Had a ball at that one.

By the last event - Pooh and Friends - she was a pro!

Bottom line -- I would definitely go to Chef Mickey's because of the characters present, but I would ease her into it by going somewhere else first.

my kids first character meal was breakfast at 1900 park fair w/mary poppins as the "greeter" (she's a family fave!) and snow white and a few other face characters and one or two costumed characters also... it was a great non-park meal (and the breakfast is outstanding!)

THE CASTLE
The best breakfast i have ever eaten! princess:
Plus it is just so exciting going inside!

cape may and chef mickey's are both excellent chioces. We do both every trip.

1900 Park Fare (at the GF) is a GREAT non-park character breakfast! the food is fabulous and we loved the characters. when we were there they had Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatter, Pooh and Tigger. it wasn't too crowded or rushed. we had a great time.

Both are excellent, but if I were to choose just one it would be Chef Mickeys because of the atmosphere. However, character interaction at Cape Cafe May is better and more frequent.

The very best in my opinion is 1900 Park Fare. The food is to die for and the character interaction is great! I have done Chef Mickey's , Crystal Palace and a few others but 1900 wins hands down. :teeth:

My only suggestion, for whatever place you decide to do, is that since it will be a non park day for you, try to make the latest AR they have, this was you won´t feel pressured by all those people that you know are waiting outside.

We just got back yesterday. We did 3 character breakfast. Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fare amd Cape May cafe.

We thought Crystal Palace had the best food.
1900 had the best Character interaction
Cape May was just so so. The food was cold and we waited for a half hour AFTER we finished eating to see our first Character.

I know it sounds kinda of common sense, but the reason you are going to the Character meal is your Kids, not what food they have there. For example We love Breakfasaurous for Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto. The food was very good and service good but the main Draw is the Characters. They are Magical moments when your kid sees there favorite Disney person.
