Which Cat most likely to get upgraded?

Besides the Cat 12 to Cat 11 when sleeping 4. Seems like a lot of upgrades are for Cat 9's.

Based purely on statistics, the lower you are, the more likely you are to be upgraded. Yes, in my experience, you are usually upgraded to the next "thing" rather than just a category (other than 12 to 11). What I mean is that inside usually goes to porthole. Porthole usually goes to verandah. Verandah sometimes goes to bigger room. Cat 4 usually goes to 3.

This makes logical sense too. Say that someone in a cat 3 cancelled the cruise. By doing the above, DCL can make 4 people happy about an upgrade based on one cancellation. Of course, there are relatively fewer cat 3. It is far more likely that a 5 or 6 will cancel (just based on the numbers of those cabins.) So, there is a better chance of a porthole going to a verandah than of a verandah going higher.

Bottom line, there is no logic as to who gets upgraded. It doesn't seem to be based on number of cruises, whether you booked thru DCL or TA, how far from cruise you booked, etc. It just seems to be whoever the pixie dust lands on.

I don't know if I could contain myself if I got upgraded from my category 9 to a verandah. I'm glad I'm totally happy and expecting my Outside Cat 9 that I booked. So if some pixie dust landed on me it would be a surprise and really catch me off guard. :wizard:

OK, here's way too much information...
Rooms By Category (total 875 rooms)
1=2
2=2
3=18
4=80
5=114
6=138
7=30
8=60
9=175
10=96
11=147
12=13
(BTW - I looked at the deck layouts and counted the rooms by Deck and Category - yea, that was a slow day at work::yes:: )

So if you are in a ...
cat 12 there are 862 rooms to upgrade to
cat 11 there are 715 rooms to upgrade to
cat 10 there are 619 rooms to upgrade to
cat 9 there are 444 rooms to upgrade to
cat 8 there are 384 rooms to upgrade to
cat 7 there are 354 rooms to upgrade to
cat 6 there are 216 rooms to upgrade to
cat 5 there are 102 rooms to upgrade to
cat 4 there are 22 rooms to upgrade to
cat 3 there are 4 rooms to upgrade to
cat 2 there are 2 rooms to upgrade to
cat 1 there is no where for you to be upgraded too :)

Now if you want to eliminate the "sister" categories where the "only" difference is the LOCATION your upgrade possibilities are...
cat 12 to 10 or higher: 715 rooms
cat 11 to 10 or higher: 715 rooms
cat 10 to 9 or higher: 619 rooms
cat 9 to 7 or higher: 384 rooms
cat 8 to 7 or higher: 384 rooms
cat 7 to 6 or higher: 354 rooms
cat 6 to 4 or higher: 102 rooms
cat 5 to 4 or higher: 102 rooms
cat 4 to 3 or higher: 22 rooms
cat 3 to 2 or higher: 4 rooms
cat 2 to 1 only 2 rooms available (the only place you have to go from here)
cat 1 sorry, you're at the top of the room higherarchy

Thank you jrabbit! I've always been interested in number of rooms on ship but couldn't find the information online. Thanks again.

Well for me a CAT9 has not been a lucky CAT for the upgrade fairy. We are on the 8/21 Wonder, this will be our 2nd on the Wonder and 4-7 day magic cruises. We booked a 9 and were never upgraded. I do think a lot were up graded on this cruise because 3 weeks ago the only thing available on there web site were CAT6 and CAT4. Now all those CAT's are gone, as of yesterday and 10, 11, and 12 are available.

How about the odds of two lower catagory connecting rooms being upgraded to other connecting cabins... :rotfl2:

BTW I am very impressed and will bookmark this for future reference! Thanks again for taking the time to work this all out. :wave2:

Do upgrades occur if the ship is not full. For example, if there are 10 unused category 6 cabins, will they upgrade ten people in category 7-9 to fill the cabins and then the other lower categories move up as well?

my son booked a cat 11 for Sept 10 on the Magic, how can i tell if the cat 11 are all gone? thanks

jrabbit....

my compliments.... and thanks! A nice bit of useful info.

We booked Cat. 12 Gty and just got our tickets for 9-1-05 and Disney had upgraded us all (3 cabins) to Cat. 10 cabins. I've read that Cat. 10 cabins only sleep 3, but there are 4 people in 2 of our bookings. How do they figure that? Does anyone know? Also, when we booked this cruise, the time to be docked in Nassau was 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m., and now on our tickets it says 9:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Why did they change the port times? Thanks for all info!

Some Cat. 10 cabins sleep 4. None of the Cat 12 cabins sleep 4. Congrats on the upgrade!!

We're leaving on the 7 nt Western 9/10 and were just upgraded from a cat 12 to a cat 8!!!!! Talk about pixie dust!

CONGRATS! DCL only has 13 Cat 12 cabins, but we have always booked Cat 12 with 4 per cabin....so I guess that's why we always get upgrades! I just hope we don't have a repeat of last year when Frances blew in and closed the port!!! However...DCL was VERY good to us and we actually feel like we MADE money on that cruise! We also got to cruise to Cozumel as opposed to Nassau....hmmmmmmm....perhaps another hurricane wouldn't be so bad??!!

I thought that I would add my original list to this thread because several people liked the number of rooms per category list.

Here is the Number of Rooms per Deck List
1=42
2=227
5=78
6=246
7=180
8=102

The following is the list of number of rooms by Category and Deck

1/8=2 (cat 1, deck 8, 2 rooms)
2/8=2
3/8=18
4/8=80
5/7=114
6/6=118
6/5=20 (cat 6, deck 5, 20 rooms)
7/7=10
7/6=10
7/5=10
8/7=16
8/6=24
8/5=20
9/2=150
9/1=25
10/7=9
10/5=6
10/2=64
10/1=17
11/7=31
11/6=94 (cat 11, deck 6, 94 rooms)
11/5=22
12/2=13

And now we have it the "other way around"
Number of rooms by Deck and Category
1/9=25 (deck 1, cat 9, 25 rooms)
1/10=17
2/9=150
2/10=64
2/12=13
5/6=20
5/7=10
5/8=20
5/10=6
5/11=22
6/6=118 (deck 6, cat 6, 118 rooms)
6/7=10
6/8=24
6/11=94
7/5=114
7/7=10
7/8=16
7/10=9
7/11=31 (deck 7, cat 11, 31 rooms)
8/1=2
8/2=2
8/3=18
8/4=80

And that's all that I know about categories, rooms and decks

Awesome lists jrabbit! Thanks for sharing them.

I think my next late night computer binge I will count up all the connecting cabin options to add to it.
