Which Canon Camera??

Hello there...

I'm hoping you pros can help me decide on which camera I should purchase.

I'm looking between the:
Canon S3 IS
Canon Powershot A630
Canon Powershot A710 IS

I'm in desperate need of an upgrade from my old ancient Fuji Finepix.
Right now the most important need for the camera is our upcoming Disney trip. I want good pictures!! As for home use I'll mostly be using for my DD's sporting events (gymnastics, hockey & equestrian jumping). Also used for camping and your basic "mom" needs..

Any recommendations would be appreciated or if you know of a better suited one that would be great! As for price range I'd like to stick to under $400 US (I'm in CAD funds).

Well, alot of it comes down to how 'portable' you want vs the zoom. If you're willing to carry around a little bit larger camera, the S3 is a better choice!

The zoom comes in handy all over the place and the camera is much faster (less shutter lag) than the smaller cameras that Canon has made in the past. (I havn't used the newer small cameras, so they may have improved.

I considered the same 3 for a Christmas present to my wife. I definitely wanted IS. I ended up with the S3 IS. It's a little bit bigger than the A710. My wife loves hers.

i'd want the zoom also so the s3..imo the size factor wouldn't make up for the inability to use the camera when i wanted to take something with the zoom....of course when i go to wdw next time i will be needing a semi to lug all my stuff in so guess i'm not the best to judge "portability"

I own the S3 and my 10 year old use the A630. Both take great pictures. S3 has more buttons but the A630 is lighter.
Go to http://dpchallenge.com/ and you can find your camera and see the type of pictures it takes.

I did a double take on your post because I thought I had written it! I went through the same thing down to replacing the same camera last summer. I ended up with the S3 IS. I have had so much fun with this camera. I wish it was smaller to fit into my purse, but I like the longer zoom and the sports mode with continuous shooting. I take pictures of my DD's soccer games and diving in pools. Good luck.
