What do you use to carry your camera/video gear when walking around the world for a week?
I have a Nikon D750 w/50mm f1.4g lens, a Panasonic HCX-900m camcorder, and a GoPro. I may leave the camcorder at home on our upcoming trip but not sure yet. I need to buy something that I can carry my stuff around the parks with...Been looking at the Think Tank Street walker backpack.
Any suggestions??

Bags are like everything in photography, its individual preference and there is no perfect bag. I have a closet full of them! I'm a Lowepro guy and have several I use regularly. My go to bag is a Fastpack 200. While at the World, my camera is never in the bag. My bag, at different times, may hold a second body, different lenses, a tripod or a combination of all. I do not use my bag to hold treats, personal items or anything other than camera equipment. I am a pack mule carry everything with me that I think I will need for any situation. Typically, it will hold a 70-200 f2.8, 17-50 f2.8 and a 30mm f1.4 along with a flash and other supporting equipment. If there is any room, I will sneak a second body in just in case. I like easy access and the Fastpack and my Slingshot 200 AW allow for side access. That's my two cents.

I use a Crumpler Five Million Dollar Home (now discontinued in the US, I believe). It fits a body (D7100) with grip and two lenses (16-85 and 35 f/1.8), plus a lightweight jacket, and has loops on the sides for my water bottle and a P&S camera in a case. It carries much more, but in WDW I don't tend to need longer glass so I leave it at home or the hotel and just enjoy the parks more.

I was trying to figure out what to for my trip to disney... something that wouldn't be bulky or annoying yet something that would protect my camera while not in my hand (and on rides). I'm also taking a go-pro so hanging onto it all day long just didn't seem feasible.
So I decided to get this:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0072348OM...TF8&colid=34U85WY8ZWBPV&coliid=I33S7YVHHCUFT0

Has enough room for my DSLR and go-pro and the front can pack all of my wallet items. I just hope having a strap across my body all day doesn't bug the crap out of me. but then again it shoudln't be any worse than my cross-body purse.

Just a heads up, the zippered area in the front is not very big :/ but the bag itself is comfortable and will protect your camera nicely when not in use.

I have that bag for quick trips where I'm not carrying a bunch of stuff and I also have this:

The pocket space is so much nicer than my sling bag. I mainly use the Canon bag for when I'm have more gear and more stuff with me. The zippered areas can hold my phone, my car keys, a small wallet, etc. It is honestly my favorite bag.

Think tank anything. I own a streetwalker backpack and it's the best bag I have ever owned
I'm more of a LowePro guy when it comes to the bags themselves (design preferences) but the quality of ThinkTank Photo products is superb. I own several of their accessories and have come into contact with many of their bags, and do recommend them wholeheartedly, even if their main products don't fit my needs. :)

I'm another LowePro lover...
  • love the protective padding. All my gear worked when my camera bag fell 3 feet onto concrete at a Japan airport. No I will not repeat the test.
  • LowePro offers a rain cover
  • LowePro makes several bags/backpacks. I prefer dual strap backpack to even out the weight. My fave bag is the Rover AW.

I've been eyeing the F-Stop Guru backpack. The F-Stops concept for their bags revolves around a modular/removable camera and lens insert which can be swapped out for a different size insert, or removed and stored if you won't be taking your camera gear with you so you can use your backpack as a regular back pack when not carrying your camera gear.

My main issue with most camera backpacks is that they have little to no additional storage, its just a backpack to carry your camera gear. What's also nice about the F-Stop Guru is that you still have a decent amount of space in the pack when the camera insert is in the bag so you can still carry a jacket, change of clothes, and anything else you may need when traveling.

I used to bring a crumpler $7 million dollar home bag with me on trips in addition to my backpack, but its very cumbersome, and I rarely take the camera bag with me when we do go out when traveling (I usually just throw a jacket, and change of clothes for the kids into my back pack, and toss my 5d3 in the bag and go). So the camera bag is just there to transport my gear with me. Now I can have a decently padded protected camera case for my gear, and still have space for other items, and when we get where we're going, I have the option of taking the insert out and having a full size backpack, or leave it in and carry my gear and other items around!

I'm probably going to be picking this one up in the next month or so for our upcoming trip in October.

Another Lowepro person here. I have a Lowepro Photo Sport 30l AW. It was the only backpack with a frame I could find that had a quick access, could carry a Camelbak, had enough room for my equipment (tripod included) plus a decent sized daypack. I use it regularly on day hikes and day trips :) I used to own a Lowepro Photo Sport 200 AW before but the Camelbak went into the side pocket instead of being against the back so it always put more pressure on the side with the Camelbak which was uncomfortable.

In addition I have a Built NY camera bag. Looks like a regular handbag so it doesn't attract much attention. It's made out of waterproof neopren so if it drizzles, no need to put a raincover on. The padding inside is awesome and there is enough room for a body, two lenses and some small stuff like phone, wallet and keys. You can also attach a tripod to it, but then it's obvious of course that it's a camera bag.... the Built NY bag is my everday bag if I don't need much.

I also own a Vanguard Raptor 46 for when I need more equipment than fits in the Built NY or if I need to bring the laptop.

I used to own a Crumpler December Quarter - it was waaaay too large. I also used to own a Lowepro Flipside 300 - not a fan of the flipside access :/
