I have only stayed in Tokelau and Hawaii. I would need to call and request a building tonight so I thought I would ask for some opinions. I like Tokelau but I haven't requested it so I may not get it when they offer me our room I want to be aware of the pro's and cons of each building. Thanks for everyones help.

We loved Tahiti. Very close to TTC, close to beach to watch the fireworks if you don't have a lagoon view, rooms are very large and although you are only a quick walk to the GCH it is somewhat off the beaten path so it seems to be a little quieter and less hectic. We also enjoyed the monorail view in Aotearoa. I think this longhouse was just renovated. I really think you can't go wrong no matter which building you choose.

Anyone else have a buidling they prefer and for what reason? Thanks for your input, only 6 days till Disney World.

Haven't stayed in these yet, but Fiji and Aotearoa have just been refurbed.

My web page below has a page for each longhouse with a list of pros and cons at the top of each page.

Tikiman,
Thanks for sharing your wonderful web pages. They are super and answered many questions. Awesome pictures.

Great site, Tikiman!

I read on another post that the renovations at Fiji are not completed yet- and that hammering and sawing and sludge (?!) disturbed their visit and view, so they were moved.

I requested Fiji for a bunch of reasons, but I'm wondering if that is a bad decision if the renovations will still be going on. My trip is from the start of Nov til mid Nov, honeymoon (so it needs to be magical!)

Anyone have any additional information? anyone been at Fiji lately?

thanks in advance.

Fiji was scheduled to finish on September 28th. Are they not done yet? They may be a little behind. There was quite a bit of work going on even in July but I don't see how it disturbed anyone. They had it all blocked off and I did not hear much with all they were doing.

It should be fine by November.

Hey Tikiman, Of course I have your pages bookmrked but I wanted to hear what others thought. I really think I need a nudge to step out of my Poly box but who knows. I requested the Tokelau building again. Maybe I won't get it though. Thanks for everyones help.

I need help from someone who just got back and stayed at either Roratonga or Fiji. I am currently set to stay in Roraonga in 10 days and need to know if I should change my plans. Since I have paid for garden view, the only other building I am interested in is Fiji. Is it finished or not? Is Roratonga that bad that I should not stay there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just got back from the Poly, and although I loved this resort, I would not recommend staying in the Rarotonga building (until it has been refurbished). Our room smelled very musty, and the elevator is frequently out of order.

I can't believe it, but I forgot to pay attention to whether the construction has been completed on Fiji yet. I didn't notice any construction, so perhaps it has been. But just call the hotel directly and ask - that's what I did.

From what I heard from other guests, the Tokelau or Aeteoroa buildings would have been a better choice. But even though I read these boards faithfully every day before our trip, I didn't notice anyone stating the negative aspects of Rarotonga until I got back. Hopefully, the Rarotonga will be refurbished next year, because it really is in a convenient location.

And even though our room was less than desireable, we still loved the Polynesian and our trip to Disney World!!

Chris,

Sorry you missed out on the reports about the bad condition of Rarotonga. I have been trying to tell anyone who asks about which building to choose. I have heard complaints about room condition and housekeeping. I was never a big fan of Rarotonga even before the reports but I know many like the location. You probably did not see any construction because Fiji should be done by now and the next rehab is not until January. I am glad you still had a good time. I would say most of the Polynesian longhouses are in good shape. Sorry you were put in Rarotonga.

Thanks for your comments, Steve, and I do enjoy your informative website! Our stay in Rarotonga was a little disappointing but certainly not a "trip ruiner", and my mother actually liked the location and didn't want to move (even though I seriously thought about it). She's not very picky, and the Polynesian is such an enjoyable resort that it would be hard not to have a good time there.

We loved the beach and the tropical landscaping, and my daughter loved the pool, of course. We also enjoyed being able to rent the "water mice" in our last day.

Obviously, most of our time was spent at the parks, but we did have to spend one whole day in the room with my sick daughter. Even though housekeeping service was just about average, I will say that the Housekeeping Manager, Jeff, went out of his way to bring her a stuffed Minnie and autographed photo of Minnie when he found out she was sick. (And housekeeping had to change the bed linens twice, and they were very nice about it.)

Once again, thanks for all your helpful info and website, Steve!
