I need a new booster for my daughter who is 4 1/2. I can't decide between the graco or the britax. Any opinions??
Also I need a seet for my son who will be two. He weighs 50lbs so that is a huge problem. I really need a 5 pt car seat that has crash tested safely and can hold a big boy. A few different cosco brands have caught my eye but it can be so confusing rying to keep these babies safe:confused3
Thanks, April

How much does your dd & ds weigh? What is their torso height, sitting, bum to top of shoulder?

Torso height is important because car seats are outgrown by height once the tops of the shoulders go past the top harness slot (even if the weight limit isn't reached yet). They are also outgrown by height if the tips of the ears go past the top of the shell. Height limits of car seats are based on averages and have a little wiggle room because kids have different size torso's. Weight limits are set in stone.

Here are a list of car seats currently available that might work for you. All car seats must past the same standardized tests. They are all safe, as long as you read the manual and use them according to mfg instructions.

I would encourage you to think about keeping your 4.5yr old in a 5-pt harness also. When you move from a 5-pt seat to a bpb, the responsibility to stay properly buckled and positioned in the car goes from the parent to the child. The child needs to stay properly positioned in the booster 100% of the time. Never leaning forward to pick up a cup or a toy, never twisting around to seeing something behind them, never putting the shoulder strap under their arm (can cause internal injuries called "seatbelt syndrome"). A 5-pt harness is much safer way for children to ride. <off soapbox> If you decide to go the BPB route, then the Parkway is the better seat. It's narrow, and because it doesn't have armrests, it's easier for the child to buckle themselves in. The seat does a good job of keeping the child in the correct position (relatively speaking - compared to other bpb's not compared to a 5-pt). It also works for taller kids than the Graco TB does. Another thing you can do is lock the seatbelt when you buckle your child in (assuming you have ALR type seatbelts - where you pull the shoulder belt all the way out and when it retracts, it locks into place.)

In May, Recaro is introducing a convertible seat that will harness to 35# r/fing, 70# f/fing, Top slots 19", and will retail for $219 & $259. Something to wait for if current seats are not outgrown yet. It looks promising.

Hth, and let me know if you have any questions, or better yet, a good source of info is www.car-seat.org. I'm not a cpst, just a passionate car safety advocate. :goodvibes

So after researching I decided on the regent and cannot find it for sale:mad: THis is so frustrating!!

are you looking for it for both your kids? or just the younger?? I know often when peole find regent forsale they will post on www.car-seat.org it has been very hard to find b/c of it being the only really high weight limit seat...

For a booster I would recommend the Britax Parkway. DS5 has it and it's great.

We had the same "problem" as you do.. a 40lb 2yr old. She is now 8 and is still very comfortable and harnessed in her seat. We also have a booster for her (you will need one as the Regent is not a seat you want to move around) but would always rather be in her "big" seat. Her brother is 5 and has had his for 18mos or so. (He cried all the way home the first time he was in a booster.)

I know they are $$, but you might want to look into them for both of your kids.

Otherwise I would also look into the Parkway. Very hard to go wrong with a Britax. :)

I have the Britax Parkway and love it but my kids are tall and slim/average (1 of each). I honestly would not recommend this seat for a heavier child. It is a narrow seat and I don't think a heavier child would be comfortable. My dd is 8 and comfortable but again, she is thin.

Thanks for all the help! Thanks to a great lady here I was able to purchase the Regent today for son:cool1: . I ordered the Parkway for my DD who will soon be 5 too:thumbsup2
Thanks for all the help!:disrocks:
