As far as I am concerned they are both different. When I was learning all about WDW, I went to the Library and borrowed all the tour books. I loved the Unofficial Guide, it has great info. BUT...........when it comes to actual trip planning, the Passporter wins hands down. (I don't think the Library had the Passporter, I found it online)

I like the Passporter when planning my trip, not even that I really need it anymore, but just love to use it to organize everything etc.

I buy both. The passporter is one I buy now each trip and I may use the same UOG for 2 years. I think the UOG gives top notch advice and the Passporter is a great planner, organizer, and keepsake.

Ditto. I think I found the UG most useful for my first few trips, as I was getting to know my touring strategies. Once I no longer needed all that information--I'd internalized the parks' layouts, etc.--I began to really appreciate the Passporter because it helped me organize my travel plans.

Oh, in terms of tone: I love the tone of the UG because I'm into snarkiness. Some folks are put off by it--like it's too negative--but I've comments funny and their assessments of attractions accurate (even if I have a couple of faves that don't rank as well as they say).

I do have a guilty admission, though. I can't get to WDW as often as I'd like, so when I'm feeling down I like to look at the Official Guide and its pictures. I don't find the guide that helpful for planning, but it does make me feel a little less homesick. (Does anyone else get homesick for Disney?)

The UG for the info. PassPorter for the park maps (especially) and the way it's organized. It can be difficult to find things in the UG. PassPorter is color-coded making it simple to find, for example, the dining section or info on attractions. I say first timers should buy BOTH (like I did). Veterans would do very well with just the PassPorter (and TGM!).

UG is packed full of info and details, and the Passporter is great for the actualy planning!

In the uk we have the Brits Guide To Orlando which is great, especially for 1st timers. Its alot like the UG.

We use the passporter and we love it!! It has so much information in it. We just bought another book. It is by Kevin Yee-It is the 2007 WDW Dining Guide it has menu's in it for all of WDW, and the resorts. It's a great book and it's pocket-sized, so it will fit great in our backpack!!

Neither. TourGuideMike.com was well worth the small charge for the use of his site. Better than both books--IMHO.

I will be using the Passporter once it gets here!! STUPID MEDIA MAIL SHIPPING..it takes waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. Whenever I am at Barnes and Noble I flip through the spiral one (obviously i purchased the deluxe) and I cannot wait to have my little planning hands on it!! ::sigh:: Oh well maybe ill receive it today.

I use Passporter and Tour Guide Mike. I really like both. I really like Passporter b/c of all of the pockets, stickers and planning advice. I use Tour Guide Mike mainly for the best days to visit each park.
