DH and I share similar core values/goals for life, and many similar interests (history, mysteries, cats, books, hospitality, serving, faith, learning, walking, camping, traveling...) but our "styles" and most of our personalities are very, very different. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) we're both low-energy people who aren't into the party scene - but for different reasons. If anyone is familiar with the Meyers-Briggs personality inventory, I'm an INFP and DH is an ISTJ. If you aren't familiar with it, it's a fun tool for understanding personality and style differences if you like these sorts of things. It certainly has helped us communicate better!
The biggest difference between us is I'm an optimist, and Dh is a pessimist. In fact, when I first was meeting his friends and family, they all said "you do know he's grumpy, right?"

Yep, I'd caught on to that one...but optimistically decided it wasn't such a big deal! Sometimes it drives me crazy, but usually I don't mind, and I really think he's rather endearing - just like Grumpy from the 7 dwarfs. He's all huffy and grumpy on the outside, but inside he's really a sweetheart.
