Which Beach?

I think I posted this question before but our plans keep changing so I'm asking again. We will be at WDW in October and I really want to take my dd's to the ocean as they have never seen it. I know that Cocoa Beach would be the logical choice but I've read conflicting reports on the cleanliness and just overall quality of the beach. Can anyone recommend another beach or reassure me that Cocoa Beach is okay? Or maybe I should consider the gulf side? I'd really like the drive to be 2 hours or less.

My next problem is that we were not really planning on renting a car because most of our time will be spent at WDW. So should I rent a car at the airport when we arrive in Florida and drive to whatever beach we decide on and then return the car to the airport and then head to WDW using FL Tours or should we rent a car at WDW and return it there? I've done the math and we are better off to rent a car for the day and pay for our WDW transfer than to rent a car for the week (unless of course we could get a great rate for October).

Please someone tell me what I should do!!

Hi!

Thought I'd pass along a tip I received. I met a couple from Orlando while I was skiing at Lake Tahoe a few days ago. I asked them what beach we should go to during our trip to Florida in May. They said go to "New Smyrna" which is south of Daytona.

National rent a car has a location at WDW at the transportation center. If you can get a good one day rate for National I would pick the car up at the airport and drop it off at WDW. There is usually not a drop off charge in Florida (make sure). You can then take a taxi van back to the airport when you leave thus eliminating one way of the transfers.

It can't be that much more to rent a car for the whole week. Rates are cheap right now, and it's a lot less hassle to have transportation at your disposal than switching between rental car/limo service.

We have been to Cocoa Beach and New Symnra Beach. We like NS much better. Cleaner and more family oriented, however, it is a longer drive than cocoah Beach.
