Renting a car and going to a beach are two things that I haven't yet done on a Disney vacation. So I need help!

What is the best beach within an hour of Disney?

We want to rent a car for a day to drive to the beach, what is the best way to go about doing that from Disney property to get the best rate?

Are you talking about CA or FL??

I dont have the answer, but I am sure they will be along soon.

My vote would be Honeymoon Island in Dunedin. You will also find some nice beaches along 699 (Gulf Blvd.) which runs along the Gulf from Clearwater Beach down to Pass-A-Grill.

I lived in Clearwater for 2 years and Honeymoon was my favorite beach in the area. There are also some trails so if you want to explore and not just sit in the sand there are some options.

Thanks for the advice!

Anyone else?

What about Cocoa Beach?

I live in Daytona which is a little over an hour from disney and if i was to choose I would go somewhere on the gulf coast

In my opinion it depends on whether you are traveling with children, and what ages. Cocoa is a great beach and home to RonJon's(in my opinion worth the trip), but the surf can be rough. If you go to the west coast on the Gulf, which is beautiful -there is virtually no surf, which some may not find too exciting. My favorite beach is New Smyrna Beach -typical Florida beach community. Similar to Daytona, but without all the commercial elements. It is about 1.5 hours NE of Disney. You can drive on this beach which is pretty cool and the while there is surf it tends to be much smoother than at Cocoa. Probably best for the tween - teens age group. Also, very easy to rent beach gear from trailers set up on the beach -- or at least that's the way it was a few years ago.

We really like Cocoa Beach. It's typically not busy when are there. We head to the south part of the beach and there is a couple of little parking/picnic areas that you can use (for $5 per car). My parents live in Orlando, close to the airport, and we just hop on the b-line and are there in about 45 minutes. We are going to Orlando in a few weeks (last minute trip) and are actully headed to Cocoa Beach on the morning of June 13th to watch the Space Shuttle Endevor launch.
