Doing the EBTA next year and want to add a night in Barcelona so we have time to see the Sagrada Familia. Disney offers 2 hotel options for Barcelona --Renaissance Barcelona or Hilton Diagonal Mar
Does anyone know which of the Disney affiliated hotels is closest?
Thanks !

The Renaissance website says it is .6 miles from Sagrada Familia. I would say it is a bit farther but it is a reasonable walk. We've stayed there twice and love the location.

Agree with Gilland18 above. We did a B2B Med./WBTA and flew into Barcelona three days in advance. We walked from the Renaissance to a couple of Gaudi buildings that he built or worked on in addition to Sagrada Familia. I made reservations to tour the latter on line before we left...a self-guided tour of the first level and a one-way trip by elevator into one of the towers. Dan Brown's newest book, "Origin" takes place in several of these places...very cool. The next day we took a bus (with help from hotel staff for bus and reservations) to Parc Gruell. After that we took a taxi to the beginning of our Old Town tour (booked before we left) which included the Picasso Museum. We ate dinner at the 4 Cats before walking back to the Renaissance. For our between cruise day, we got off the ship and walked La Rambla. Watch out for pickpockets, even little ones...they are good. Security is tight everywhere, too. Would love to go back.

Hilton Diagonal Mar is pretty far from La Sagrada Familia. The Hilton is a great hotel but closer to the water than the middle of action.

We stayed there before the Transatlantic 2 years ago.

It’s not a Disney recommended Hotel but we’re staying at Hotel Europark before our cruise that is within walking distance of Sangrada Familia that was recommended on another cruise board.

The Disney hoteks are far out East of the city, good for the better beaches but a long way out for all the major sightseeing places.

The best area is around Placa Cataluna, generally the eixample barcelona area, which is the old city.

Now you can walk to some properties from there but it's the transport hub, the start and end of the HOHO, and easy connections to the Gothic area, la Rambala, the market, and traditional shops. Also the airport bus terminal and trains to the airport.

We have stayed in properties in the eixample barcelona area, a couple of hoteks, but the best has been Hotel Jazz centrally located rooftop pool, trip advisor shows high responses including as a 3 star people think it's under * and should be a 4star.

From there it is three short stops on the subway to Stagrada or the HOHO direct, it actually could be walked but in the sun not advisable.

Many cruiers on my cruises have stayed there often booking early to get breakfast included and a discount, I understand for some Mediterranean cruises it is sold out.

An alternative is Crystal Palace to the north of Placa Cataluna, slightly nearer to Sagrada only two subway stops.

DCL hotels are expensive and unless you want a beach holiday only they are in the wrong place.

We liked the Renaissance also for its great location. Close walks to shopping, food and not far from Sagrada Familia

We've stayed at both: Diagonal Mar before the cruise and Renaissance after the cruise. We preferred the Diagonal Mar (room, pool, food, ambiance) but the Renaissance is IMO a better location. On our first Med cruise we stayed at Le Meridien on Las Ramblas which is a nice hotel, fantastic location, amazing food but way too small I think now for the number of people who book before/after the cruise so I assume that's why they don't use it. But the Renaissance was about a 20-30 minute walk to Le Meridien so we were able to walk there twice for lunch and it was close to the place where we had to meet for both of our tours so, from that perspective, it was the better location. And we were able to do a bit of a walking tour on our own from the Renaissance. The Diagonal is a bit more isolated though it's across the street from a mall and restaurants but it's just not as close to things you might want to see.

That's great if you want to stay at one of the Disney recommended hotels but like many I can get better rates selecting my own hotel. Plus with the hop-on/hop-off bus or subway it's easy to maneuver around the city to see all the wonderful sites.

This is the thing.

You can save a lot on Disney recommended hotels.
You can get closer to the actual city and many sights.
You can if booked near Placa Cataluna be near the start if the HOHO and at the transport hub.
Disney hotels are expensive and too Far East of the city, but good for the better beaches.

Personally I like staying in the city but away from the touristy areas. The last time I was in Barcelona I stayed at the Praktik Garden Hotel which was less than two miles from Sagrada Familia and less than a block away to the subway. I've done two WBTA cruises and both times I arrived in Barcelona a week before my cruise and the rates I got where really reasonable.
