Which area to request at OKW?

We'll be staying at OKW Dec. 10-17, 2005. We've never stayed at a DVC property before (we're renting/buying points). It's me, DW, DS(10), and
DD (8). I think we'd like to be close to the hospitality house, pool, Olivia's, bus stop, etc., but probably don't want to be in the middle of all the high traffic areas. Looking at the map, I'm guessing that buildings 11, 12, 13, 24, and 25 look like pretty good locations. We've requested a non-smoking studio. I really don't think I'd like taking the internal bus to get to the main pool. But then again, we've never been there, so I'm not sure how long a walk it is. For comparison, we've stayed at CBR, Martinique building #23, and that was a decent location but wouldn't want to be much further than that from main building, main pool, etc..
The dock for boat to Downtown Disney is by Olivia's, right?
If anyone has any words of wisdom, I'd appreciate any advice you may have for me.

Thanks

My favorite building is 23. It is the first bus stop at the end of the night. It has a nice water view and slight golf course view (depending on your room). Also, cross the bridge and you are at the HH, Olivias, and feature pool. 11-14 is across the parking lot from the HH. If you don't mind steps ask for the 2nd floor. You get a better view above the trees.
:hourglass 17 days till we go "Home" to OKW

Keith,
If you ask for the *****ular Road area that puts you in walking distance to Olivia's, HH and pool.
Linda

If you had the person you rent from make requests, I would make them in the order of importance. i.e., Non-smoking and near HH. I would not make specific building requests, because you might be disappointed to do that. You don't say what size unit you will be staying in. If it is a 1 or 2 bedroom villa, you probably wiill be near the center of a building. If you are in a studio, you will be on the ends of a building. The studios tend not to have great views and can be located just above the air conditioning units for the building Take a copy of the map with you at check in so you can confirm that the area they are offering is to you liking. We have had over 20 stays at OKW, and have never had a bad location. The distance from HH can be daunting for some, but we usually like to walk, and if we don't care to, the next available bus is usually only a few minutes wait. All buses stop at HH last, so that is a good way to get to the pool from the outer reaches of the resort. Also, while the kids might prefer the main pool for the slide, I suspect Mom and Dad might like to be near one of the quiet pools.

Linda,
It looks like you better check your spelling a little closer before you post. :earseek:

Keith,
Are you serious??? With all the spelling and grammer damage that goes happens on these boards! Whoa!

They have a program here that takes out naughty words-once I tried to spell the place where pilots fly the airplane and the program did the same to me. When you tried to spell the road you may have spelled a male part of the body in the first part of the spelling. :rotfl: At any rate to the original poster I would just make 2 requests-non-smoking and near HH. One thing you should know that for healthy people nothing is too far away from where you are staying no matter where it is.

I agree... we've been staying at OKW for years (it's our 2nd home) and I prefer to be close to HH, Olivia's, the main pool, the bar, etc ... :)
There have been a few times in the past while staying farther away from the front that we have experienced 15-20 min waits for a bus to take us to the front.

South Pointe - the main pool area is about 6 to 10 minute walk from here - depending upon how you walk.

don't compare it to CBR - I hated to walk at CBR - OKW is different - you will see - the walk is much nicer!!!

I love the views and the pool from South Pointe.

however that say - it is best to request

near a bus stop, quiet pool or HH

and/or

a golf, water or woods view

with a studio view you don't want the first floor - second and third are great for studio views. the first floor you can be near the air conditioning as noted or not see anything because of the grow (for privacy).

higher up studios views are pretty nice.

The OP should know that 11-14 are VERY wooded, which can be a problem with bugs if you like to sit on your deck. I had a one bedroom there, and hated it, because of the bugs and because I am claustrophobic. Those woods were just too darn close! I leave for a grand villa on Friday, and I have been sweating bullets ever since I found out that there are grand villa in those buildings.

No, I'm not serious. Just trying to have a little fun with Linda. That's why I used a ":earseek:". It looked funny to me.

But he is going to be there in December, and the bugs are pretty minimal in Dec. We were in 13 last December, and it was wonderful!

We will be staying in a studio for a few nights this coming Nov. Do all of the studios have their own balconys?

At OKW, yes.

We did not care for Southpointe at all....too close to a busy road...too far from everything..long bus rides....thumbs down for our stay at Southpointe.

We liek the Southpoint area. It is close to a quiet pool, a bus stop, and the walkway to SSR/Downtown. It is not close to the HH, but we don't mind the walk, or taking the bus if we feel lazy.

I would agree that you should request your smoking preference, a general area, and if you want a 2nd or 3rd floor unit. Requesting a specific building gets to be a bit "much". There are truly no bad views at OKW. Every view is pretty much woods, water or golf course. I don't think there is a dumpster view or anything like that. At least not that I have encountered and we've been staying there since 1997.
