I have to go to a bachelorette party this weekend, and I know I will have a few drinks...what are the best choices?

It isn't clear that carbs are the only concern with alcoholic drinks, for carb-focused diet regimens. In many cases, folks have found that alcohol also triggers insulin response.

The only thing I know is that straight alcohol has no carbs, which is why in December, Katholyn, KathyTX and myself are doing Tequila shots!;):p

Seriously, that is all I know...Oh and that Michelob Ultra Beer has 2.6 carbs per bottle (or close to that)! :)

The white liquors (Tequilla, gin, vodka) have no carbs - but the alcohol "sugars" will keep you from losing weight for a few days.

Dry red wine (Merlot is good) has .5 carbs per glass. Again, it's not the carbs that are the culprit, it's the alcohol.

Quick lesson: Your body burns "fuels" in this order:

1. alcohol
2. carbs/sugars
3. fat

So, if you drink alcohol, it will take that much longer for your body to get to the fat. It will be "busy" burning the alcohol for a day or two before you start losing again.

Make sense? :)

Drink enough alcohol, and you won't really care! :teeth:

On the rare occasion that I have a drink, I usually order a rum and diet Coke. I figure that won't hurt me too much! The rum is clear and the diet Coke doesn't have extra carbs.

I hope you have a good time! :D

All of the unflavored hard liquors are carb-free (including whiskey, rum, vodka, gin, scotch, etc.).

The Absolut flavored vodkas are carb-free as well.

The flavored rums (Malibu, Captain Morgan, Barcardi's flavored line...) ALL have sugar carbs.

Michelob Ultra has 2.6 carbs per 12 oz.
Miller Lite has 3.2 carbs per 12 oz.
Thin Ice (a new hard lemonade) advertises 1 carb per 12 oz.
Guiness has 5g per 12 oz.
Jaegermeister has 5g per oz.
Captain Morgan has about 1/2 a carb per ounce.

Wines can vary GREATLY in carb count. The lowest carb wines are the dry wines.

Wow ... I never knew that my "carboholic tendancies" were also reflected in the fact that I like wine ... the sweeter the better! I guess that's yet another reason why I could never do a low/no carb thing :p

Thanks for all of the great info. I just keep learning and learning from you folks!

This weekend, my beverage of choice will be a dirty, Grey Goose martini. I'll probably have 2 on Friday night when we go out with some friends to dinner.... ahh, an adults only dinner.... :chat:

But, then again, now that I know that Absolut flavors don't have carbs, maybe an Absolut Mandarin and diet tonic will be in order.

I can never find bars/restaurants that have diet tonic! Do they serve it at your restaurants?

Some do, most don't. It depends on how swanky the place is and how often they get requests for it. We're going to a swanky place tomorrow night, so I'm hoping that they'll have it. Alot of times, I've had it at country clubs and other private clubs because members ask for it. (We are lucky to have rich friends that have memberships.)
