Just wondering if I want to be in Kidani, not Jambo, which Room type should I get?

Studio V, S, SV, C
1BR V, S, SV, C

Looking for the most inexpensive room we can get, at Kidani, that has a better few than a garbage dumpster from the balcony.

Kidani only has two views - Standard and Savannah. Most of the standards look out at the parking lot area although because of the underground parking it isn't much space and the view past that is kind of marshy land. A few of the standard views look at the pool and some have partial savannah views but those are just the luck of the draw when you arrive and not guaranteed.

Savannah will be the "safest" view and a studio will be less points than a 1BR.

The categories you listed are only all available at Jambo.

In my opinion, the only reason to stay at AKV is to get a savanna view room. I'm not using points for a parking lot view.

And you do know that when you call MS will specify which of the two you'll be staying in. I used to think that if you reserved a savannah view, for instance, you didn't know until you checked in, whether you were in Jambo or Kidani.

We feel this exact same way. We wouldn't stay at AKV if we didn't have a savannah view.

I understand how you feel, but at the same time, value AKV is the cheapest of the DVC options going, points-wise. There are also ample opportunities to view the animals in a hundred other spots besides your room. So, if you're somebody that is stretching a bit to make a trip, buying DVC points to stay at AKV standard is cheaper than going to a moderate. But a moderate can't touch the AKV pool and grounds.

So yes, you don't wake up to giraffes outside your balcony, but you also save enough in a week to pay for several plane tickets.

I'm just trying to understand better what each of the point prices buys you exactly, so far you guys are helping me out with that, many thanks.

.... but you also save enough in a week to pay for several plane tickets....

Using DVC points? How? You just save points and stay longer or go more often requiring more plane tickets.

Not everyone on these threads are members. We are DVC members and love to stay at our home resort, AKV. We are using our points to get my parents a room as well for our upcoming trip. My brother's family and my sister's family figured out a couple of weeks ago that they could rent points for a value studio for about the same price as a Value resort with a 20% discount. Unfortunately, value studios were not available at the 7 month window. They moved up to a standard room for the rack rate of a Value or discounted rate of a moderate. They would not spend another $300-400 on view for the week. The AKV rooms are a great deal. Jambo standard rooms are all pool view.

Yes, bobbiwoz, we did! I verified with the front desk that this was indeed a standard view -- no upgrade.

For our July stay I booked a Jambo standard room expecting to view the pool, but we were lucky enough to get one of the recently reclassified rooms! It was amazing to get a standard view room and see all of the animals we saw.

What I love is that last year I was in a value studio just to the side of where you were (I remember that piece of wood). That was so cool-paying the points for a value studio, but getting to see the animals. I'm going back to a value studio in a couple weeks, and I'm really hoping I get that same area.

That piece of wood is one place they place treats for the animals, so it's a definite animal magnet!:thumbsup2

Does anyone know what the views are from most of the value Jambo rooms? We were thinking about booking value to save points.

The yellow units in the above picture show the value rooms. As you can see, there are far more savanna view rooms than there are parking lot ones, but there are also a lot of pool view rooms.
