Which Airlines are Safest Financially

We hope to be traveling from Syracuse, NY to WDW in October. I need to make flight reservations, but am hesitant because of the financial status of most airlines. Does anyone know which ones are most secure? I'd hate to have something happen after our plans are made.

I think Delta and Northwest are the only majors currently in bankruptcy. What are your choices?

Southwest, Continental and US AIrways are all pretty solid these days.

Thanks for your input. Our choices (I think) are Delta, American and US Air.

I believe that last quarter the only 2 airlines that turned an actual profit were Southwest and American.

Neither one are in Bankruptcy status now.

Glad to hear it seems that US Air isn't too shakey, at least for now! I booked Syracuse to Orlando with connection in Phillie about a month ago. The fare at that time was 179.00 USD return including taxes for mid August flights. I had watched the prices of all the airlines for a few weeks and booked when all the prices seemed to jump. Perhaps they will come down over the next while, but at that price compared to what I paid to fly out of Toronto last May is incredible. (It was over 500.00 each out of Toronto and for 5 of us the difference really adds up!!) And a bonus for us is that Syracuse is actually closer to us than Toronto and we can clear customs in the car at the border rather than at the airport!

The other day I saw on the news that Southwest was the only domestic carrier to turn a profit.

Stay clear of the charter type airlines such as USA3000. They can make major schedule changes and not even give you the option of a refund.
