Went to T-Rex for the first time last year. That place is by far the best restaurant on Disney property. It's got something for the whole family.

My DD8 and DS5 sat at our table in awe and just taking in the sights during dinner.

I'm guessing it doesn't get a lot of respect because it's not a Disney owned establishment.

The atmosphere, the food, and service were all excellent.

Can't wait to spend our first night there to start our trip off right.

I can't tell if you are posting in earnest or not. It's great for its setting and mediocre for its food quality. It is on Disney property and the Disney Dining Plan so it's not denied love for a perceived lack of Disneyness. It just is not that great. My 8 year old loves the dinosaurs, but the noise level coupled with the mediocre food is why it is tolerated and not adored. We eat there every trip cause it's cool inside. That's about it.

It's also out in DTD so you have to make an effort or already be at DTD to eat there. The restaurants at Epcot are naturally more discussed.

Our Ratings of Rain Forest Café & T-Rex Cafés:
. . . food price value: C
. . . food quality: C
. . . food quantity per serving: B
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: D
. . . eatery atmosphere: A
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: A
. . . character interaction: B (animatronics)

NOTE: The portions are pretty much commiserate with the price.
However, one is paying a premium for the atmosphere of Rain Forest
or T-Rex. The environment and animatronics are clever and amuse most
kids, as well as many adults. The Chocolate Volcano dessert at Rainforest
and Chocolate Extinction dessert at T-Rex are adventures. Due to the
price, many people expect far better food/service and are disappointed.
We think the food and service are average at best, but enjoy the
theming/theatrics. Be aware, very loud in both places.

hubby and I have eaten there twice . I love the chicken sandwhich and he thought the burger was pretty good. not so fond of the "chips". but it was worth it for the "show"!! we will be eating there in aug. with our 7 year old grandson and can't wait to see his face!

Interesting to walk through. But as far as a restaurant the food is lousy and it's too noisy.

I live near a Rain Forest Cafe and never have had any desire to take the kids there to eat. We spent 15 minutes walking around the restaurant oohing and aahing and looking at the toys for sale. We thought it was cool, but no one begged to eat there. For the money spent, there are better dining options for our family.

Dh and I went last March, and wont go back. The food was good, but it took forever!! tables around us were up and gone before we had our food. We complained and the manager didnt seem to care the service was so slow.

also I am not a fan of DTD, so no thanks to this place.

We  trex and it is def in our top 3 meals on property. Keep in mind our little ones are not old enough to leave at a club yet so we haven't done many of the signature restaurants, so that ranking may be skewed. I order the same meal each yr there and DH has enjoyed all of his meals. The kids love the atmosphere. We never miss this restaurant on a trip! In fact, we are staying at AKV for one night post cruise and trex is the only restaurant we are dining at while we are there.

We love T-Rex - great atmosphere, thought the food was good and we had great service when we were there - probably top of all for that particular trip.

Jenny:)

Honestly, I'm not sure why this place gets constantly mediocre reviews. I wouldn't call it the best on property, but we've always enjoyed it. The portions are huge (we can usually split entrees between two people) and the food has always been good for us. I especially enjoy the chicken sandwich on pizza dough with avocado. The kids enjoy the atmosphere (yes, it's loud, but we know what to expect). I think it's a very good value compared to a lot of similar options (food better and portions larger than sci fi for instance). It's not fine dining, but it's a good option for families, especially with little boys, and I've always felt like I got what I paid for.

I can't wait to go to TRex in a little over 2 weeks for the first time. I've been to Rainforest Cafe several times at the Mall of America so I couldn't fathom "wasting" my time at one in Disney but TRex seems like it will be great for the kids.

We (5 adults) went here for the first time last year for dinner. We love eating lunch at the RFC in AK and were excited to try this. The themeing and service was great, but the food was mediocre at best. I could even tolerate mediocre food for good themeing, except that it was impossible to hold a conversation without yelling. The dino's are understandably loud (especially during the meteor shower), but everyone is trying to talk on top of each other over the noise. We couldn't believe how noisy it was. We won't be back, but I'm glad it fits what other people are looking for!

gee, maybe the people just "walking through" contribute to it being noisy?;)
you expect it to be noisy, just like rainforest. Whispering canyon.. talk about noise!
once we sat right beneath the wooly mammoth (or ray ramano, as hubby said).. everytime there was a emteor shower, we had tons of kids and people standing right next to our table, oohing and aahhing. did we care? heck no! it's expected. part of the schtick. you want a nice quiet dinner, you go to Yachtsman steakhouse.
never tried any of the dinner entrees, but, like I said, I thought the chicken sandwich was pretty good, about the same as the chicken sandwich at planet hollywood.
(which is also noisy, and tables SO close together)

I'm being serious. It's great for its setting and mediocre for its food quality. Doesn't that go for every restaurant in Disney!

We actually LOVED our food there. Was the best food we had on our last trip. We had the ribs and mashed potatoes.. yummmmmm.

I like trex because it's fun but the food is def not excellent. It's Applebee's quality for about 2x the cost. Not to say that the food is bad it's just decidedly mediocre

My grandson wanted to eat here, however, there are no seats/times available at all the entire week we are there:confused3

Was wondering if they would have any luck getting there early for lunch to try to get in.
