Where would you stay with several families?

We are looking at going to Disney in 2017 with a group of 14. It would break down to 2 couples, 1 family of 5 with 3 under 18 kids and a family of 5 with 2 under 18 kids and one adult kid. We were looking at rooms at Poly. We want everyone at the same resort and grandparents are paying. Grandparents have some health issues and may not go in to the parks. Where would you stay?

I'd say a monorail defuse, especially if you want to spend a lot of time at magic kingdom. Otherwise maybe the beach or yacht club.

If Poly is in the budget I think that is a perfect resort for the group you have! I would also look at renting DVC and getting a 3 bedroom plus a studio. That might be great for some family down time and give the parent a big better place to relax and hang out while you guys are in the parks. I would still do a monorail DVC resort. Monorail resort is going to give you a lot easier and more dining option outside of the parks.

We did multiple families at the Contemporary this year and it was good, because those that didn't want to spend as much could stay in the garden wing, and then others stayed in the tower. It was great!

With that large of a group, I would suggest using a travel agent that specializes in Disney travel. I am doing a trip with our family and grandparents in December and staying at AKL because there is a lot for the grandparents to enjoy if and when they need a break. Also, I love the Monorail resorts but they can be a bit more hectic something to think about depending on your family.m

I was also going to suggest a DVC rental. If you aren't married to a Disney property, you may want to check out renting a timeshare at Wyndham Bonnet Creek (WBC), which is next to Caribbean Beach. There's lots of info on that timeshare resort in the Orlando Hotels and Attractions forum.

A timeshare rental might be perfect for your family especially if the grandparents may be staying behind. A timeshare type resort like Bonnet Creek would allow the grandparents to comfortably enjoy their vacation-kitchen, pools, hot tubs, etc. There are various room sizes, 1-4 bedrooms For example the 3 bedroom has a king, queen, and 2 full/or queens.

I was also going to suggest WBC. We stayed there in April and it was perfect for DH and Grandpa, who didn't want to come to the parks 2/3 of the time. The amenities can't be beat. They loved staying at the resort. You do have to rent a car (or use Uber). They have transportation to the parks but it is spotty. We had a presidential 2 bedroom and could see the fireworks at Epcot and Fantasmic every night.

If money was no issue, I would rent DVC villas, grand Floridian or contemporary if you like MK most, and boardwalk or beach club if Epcot.
But that will cost more than 4X what you will pay at WBC

I would stick with onsite with that group. Yes, its going to cost more, but it will allow everyone to be able to use WDW transportation and not have to travel as a group the entire trip. Makes rest breaks for some easy, while others remain in the park and gives your parents a bit more freedom while not going into the park. They can take a monorail ride through Epcot or a boat ride over to the camp ground.
