Hi Gang

Just wondering if you had a budget for $180 per night which resort would you stay at and why?

We may be going next June and I'm not sure where we should stay. We've stayed at the Contemporary in 2000 and at the Swan in 2003. Both were really nice resorts.

Thanks
Andy

That amount puts you in the WL/AKL catagory (with a good code). We're paying $188/night (tax included) WL courtyard view during regular rate period.

Dan hit the nail on the head, AKL woiuld be my first choice, WL second. Sometimes there will be a decent code to get the BC in that range as well :)

Okay I am seeing that people are getting "codes" to stay pretty cheap at deluxe resorts, like the one above for $188 at WL for the regular season...How is that happening? I am going in regular season in June, beginning and can't get anything lower than the rack rate of $239 a night for standard room at the WL...I want to stay there but my budget isn't allowing that...I would like to see what else I can get...Any help out there?

Welcome, sjams!

Ah, the codes...Codes often are the hottest topic of conversation around here. They are released about every three months or so. They are normally three letter (BAS, and BAT were the latest), room only codes. When you call to make your ressies, you say something to the effect, "Hi, I've heard room only code XYZ has been released, and I would like to see if you have rooms available at resort Q for dates R.

Code threads are here in the resort boards. They are not terribly active riight now because codes were released for Sept-Dec a month or so ago. January codes will probably be out next.. Here is a website that tells about many of the discounts. http://www.mousesavers.com/index.html And here in a site that lists many of the codes and when they were released. http://www.mousesavers.com/faq.html#codetrends

Warning: Codes will spoil you--you'll never be happy paying rack again.

Thanks soooo much for the info on codes...keep me updated please!! Now is waiting until next month too late to get a ressie for June? Do you call central Ressi for this...

I'm in the same boat as you. We're planning on going in June next year and would love to stay at a deluxe resort. The best rates I've found so far have been $239 for either AKL and WL. So, we're torn between the pricing of a moderate resort vs. the amenities of a deluxe resort. I guess we need to just sit tight and wait until the new codes are released...

Yes, you call CRO to ask for "room only" reservations and mention your code. CRO (or WDTC) often will not volunteer code information. June codes won't be out for quite a while, yet. The best way to keep on top of the codes is to check this board frequently and follow the code threads.

Good-luck.

I would HIGHLY recommend AKL. It is my favorite resort:teeth:
The theming there is amazing and it has lots of great activities for children and adults plus great dining. The absolute ONLY negative is that it takes 15-20 min. to get to (and from;) ) the MK from AKL. But I think it's well worth it::yes::

For June I would go ahead and reserve whichever resort sounds good to you and that you can afford *without a code*. Then, keep checking back here or on Mousesavers.com 2-3 months before your trip and watch for codes. At that time if a code comes out for your time period you can stay in your preferred resort for a discount (you'll be more likely to get a discount if you are flexible in your preferred resort and/or your dates). If discounts don't come out for an ungraded resort then you can hopefully get a discount at the resort you currently have reservations at or at the very least keep your current ressies, which will be in your budget.

After being at the Swan and Contemporary, I wonder if the location of WL or AKL will seem like a step down to you. We stayed at the Swan this summer and visited the WL, thinking we would want to stay there in the future. We realized that the theming isn't for us, so look into that carefully. The WL just didn't have a deluxe feel to me. I've heard great things about AKL and would like to visit there as it sounds more deluxe than the WL, but it's not as convenient.

For the amount of money you are spending, you might be able to rent points in a BCV or BWV studio for Sun.-Thurs. When you rent points, you don't have to pay additional fees or taxes.

I would book something now on a "room only" reservation and then if a discount code comes out you can modify your reservation by switching resorts or applying the discount to your current resort. Keep checking mousesavers.com for the codes.

I would try a DVC. Check the rent/trade board or PM me as I have points to rent and references. .

Do you get a better rate having your travel agent watch for the discounts that come up versus watching for the codes to come up on this board?

In other words, which would get you a better deal at a resort like BC or GF -- you booking yourself with codes or a travel agent watching for discounts?

Just wondering.

We went this year the first week of June. Codes started coming out in March. I think a Disney Visa code came out first, then AP rates and room only code last.

If you don't have a code, be sure to check Expedia. We stayed at AKL the first week of August and could have had a Savannah View for around that price even the month prior if we'd used Expedia. It's worth a look.

hmmmmm.

I would rent DVC points at stay at Beach Club Villas. That can usually happen for $180 per night or less.

My second choice would be Wilderness Lodge.
