I'm thinking about swapping out of my 150 points at VWL. It's actually too much time. 100 points would have been a better bet for me. So where would you buy if you knew you probably would not use the 11 month window for a reservation? If I do this I figure I'll buy my 100 points first then sell the 150. Current ROFR'ing patterns seem to indicate I'd be better off whether I buy through Disney or resale.

I would call DVC and add on at SSR today while you can still get the F&F discount. I would purchase 3 50 point SSR contracts as add-ons from DVC (to meet the 120 point requirement for F&F). You could even downsize the 3rd contract to 25 points, and it would sell that much quicker.

Then I would sell the VWL and 1 of the 50 point contracts. You will have to run the numbers, but It will most likely be a wash. Your funds would be tied up for a short time but VWL and a small SSR would sell very quickly. Plus with F&F, you would get 2005 points to bank which would supplement the smaller contract.

Also, you would be in a position to downsize even more by having 2 50 pointers instead of one 100 point contract.

The more I think of it, I need to call! :goodvibes

Without the "buy where you want to stay" and no 11 month window, I would say SSR is a decent choice. Lowest dues, 12 more years, even without FnF (120pt min) I believe you can get the regular discount of $90/pt for 100 points making it the lowest to buy direct from Disney. The regular discount I would think would make more sense than trying to buy 150 pts then selling 50 of them right away.

have you considering renting your VWL points that you don't need.

of course it would take 60 points to make a reservation for 5 days - but some folks only want 4 days....

VWL is very popular Thankgiving to NY.

in the summer - make guest feel cool - even with the Florida heat and humdity - not to mention :sunny:

I have rented in the past... and in fact I have 99 points this year that aren't assigned to any vacation just yet so they'll probably get rented. The problem with renting is that I'd have to do it every year I have points to spare...that would pretty much be every other year.

That whole Disney charging back to the owner thing still disturbs me enough to limit the speed at which I'd rush to rent...otherwise those 99 points would mostly be gone already.

It depends if you are financing your existing 150 points. If so, it may be worth you getting rid of 150 at VWL and buying 100 SSR, but you'd have to buy the 100 add on before selling the 150, as dvc will only allow a minimum purchase of 150 if you don't already own.

But if you don't finance, as spicey said it would be easier to rent out the 50 you don't want. You probably pay about 230 in dues on those fifty and about 711 in dues on the 150. If you could rent out the 50 points for $500, your remaining points, which you use yourself would only be costing just over £200 in dues, which is a bargain, considering you can get an OKW studio for 80 points per week.

Only you can decide if it is worthwhile to buy and sell, but if you're not financing - the renting out option sounds like a pretty good deal.

I would think twice about selling your main contract. The fee will run you 10-12%, which may or may not be a wash. You need to decide if it is worth it. I would think that it would be worthwhile to rent those points. There are tons of people who want to go to WDW for the weekend in the fall, so there are many who want small amounts of points. The first time I rented 100 pts, everyone who rented from me wanted 8-14 pts each, which is a lot of renters. The good thing is that in the last 5 years those people have returned every year to rent again, so when I only have small amounts of points to rent, I never have to advertise. ;)

Cruella...how do you rent to multiple people small numbers of points? Is that like one day or two, or do you transfer the points or what...curious because I thought we only got one transfer per year.

You can make multiple transfers in one use year but they all have to be in the same direction, either out or in, but not both in the same use year.

oooooooooooohhhhhhh

that changes things... a lot!!! If I can do transfers I'd absolutely be better off renting out the balance I can't use. :scratchin :thanks:
