40 years ago tomorrow is the anniversary of the assassination of Predisdent Kennedy. I know some of you were around then, so do you remember where you were when you heard and what you were doing?

I was in Junior year American History class. We had a student teacher, and our regular teacher came running inot the room with a radio under his arm. He was white as a ghost and said nothing more than "hush and listen!". They announced the death of President Kennedy just before the bell rang to pass to the next class. There was a deadly silence in the halls that day. No one spoke as they shuffled off to the next class. We were released from school during that next class and I spent the better part of the next 5 days glued to the television. I was watching the live broadcast when Oswald was shot.

I was in my car and when I heard it on the radio I thought that it was some kind of joke like that "War of the Worlds" broadcast. Even when I got to where I was driving, I thought the people there were "in on the joke." It's funny how your mind just won't let you accept some things.

I was not born yet. However,

My Sister-In-Law's parents went to different high schools in Dallas, and they were both on a field trip in downtown to see the President. They met that morning there, and have been together since.

I was 6 yrs old and to be honest I don't remeber that day but I do know about it from reading as I got older and talking about it in school :D

I was in 6th grade in class. School was let out and I know this sounds insensitive, but my girlfriends and I took advantage of the early dismissal and went uptown to go shopping. I guess when you're 9, it doesn't hit you as hard as it does when you're a little older.

I have to say that other tragedies such as the Challenger explosion and the WTC tragedy had a significantly different effect on me.

Lets see, since President Kennedy was killed in November of 1963, and I was born in July of 1964, I guess I was an embryo when this tragedy occurred.

I grew up hearing about it though, my parents were huge Kennedy supporters, and my father actually knew and worked with RFK.

I was 6 years old and in first grade...I don't remember the day he was killed but I do barely remember watching the funeral on tv. I also remember the photo of John Jr on the front of the newspaper the next day. You all know the one.

I was a fourth grader at a Catholic school. We were in church practicing our hymns when the Principal came in and told us. Looking back, I realized that the nuns had gotten us into the church with the ruse of needing to practice our singing, because that's where they wanted us to be when they told us.

I was only 3 years old so I was probably watching Romper Room!

I was 5 remember being angry that my cartoons were not on TV.

I was 3 days away from my 1st birthday.

I was 7, in the 2nd grade and I remember it vividly. We had a girl in our class who always told lies and wild stories. She came back from the principal's office saying the President had been shot. We all yelled at her saying how could she make up such a terrible lie. Then our teacher was called out and came back crying. They sent us all home. I remember watching Walter Cronkite sadly announcing "The President is dead." All of the adults were sobbing and it was the first time I saw my father cry. We watched TV constantly for the next few days since all the stores and businesses closed. I didn't cry until I saw JohnJohn saluting his father thinking how sad he must feel. I will never forget that day. I also was watching TV when Oswald was shot.

I was a freshman at South Mountain high school, in Phoenix, AZ. We were between classes when it was announced and they sent us all home early. I just cried and cried. I will never forget that day :(

It seems like we each have the tragedy of our era that stands out in our minds. DH and I were talking last night about how we have seen too many!
JFK,
RFK
Martin Luther King JR.
Oklahoma City bombing,
two shuttle explosions
and of course, the World trade Twin Towers.
