Aug 5 we arrived and ate at Chef Mickeys. This is our traditional first day dinner. But, this time around we left feeling very let down. We all felt that the food offerings just weren't that good or as plentiful. Yes, there were the great mashed potatoes and roast beef, but only a few other veggie choices..green beans or carrots. Desserts were limited as well. Our server seemed a bit stressed due to several large parties she had, besides us. We ate in the upper rooms, underneath the monorail and it should have been quieter but one of those large groups was really obnoxiously loud. Not sure if we'll do CM's for awhile.
Then, we ate at Spoodles for breakfast and it was fine. Nothing that stood out though. My dd told us she thought the pancakes could have been used for hockey pucks!! That hadn't happened in the past.
At Les Chefs de France, we were the most surprised and not pleasantly! The service was atrocious....really slow. One table sat down after us, got their food and were getting their check by the time we got our salads. And for whatever reason, my dh couldn't get iced tea. Sure, he ordered iced tea, but twice he was brought tepid tea with not one single ice cube!! He had flounder and found it to be very fishy, surprising since flounder tends to be one of the least fishy fishes I've eaten. I had beef and it was just okay. I had been looking forward to this spot and was really let down.
'Ohana was another story. My dh and dd had never eaten there before, so I figured it was time they tried it out. They both enjoyed it immensly. I found the meats to be a bit oversalted though. But they liked it and that's what counts.
Boma was wonderful, as usual. I tried some really outlandish stuff (for me!!) this time and only found one thing I didn't like, but that was it. Boma is a family favorite and we'll be back again!!!
We had our last meal at the Coral Reef. I had talked to Debbie and arranged to have a personalized menu for my dd as well as the diver with a banner. There was no menu which disappointed me a bit since I had chosen such meaningful photos. But, we were seated right at the tank, the last table in the row. So we didn't have too many kids coming up to peer at the fish while we were eating. Now, you had to see my dd's face when the diver appeared, stopped right in front of us, and held up that banner wishing us a wonderful cruise....it was so incredibly magical. Blanca, our server, was the best server we had while at WDW. She was incredible...even went out of her way to find the diver to get our banner for us after dinner.
Our last breakfast is traditionaly at Goofy's Beach Club Bash. It was as good as it always is. Nothing else to say about that one...the food and the characters are always good.
I could go on and on about the food on our cruise but won't. Suffice to say, I couldn't fit into my capris when it was time to come home. Good thing I mistakenly stuck a larger size pair of shorts in my bag!!!!
We did the dining plan, but it didn't work out well for us. I've done it before and it has been fine. I'm not sure whether it was the heat or what, but we left about 8 counter service credits behind and I ran to the Screendoor on our last morning to buy a bunch of stuff to use up my snack credits. We used all the table service credits, but I think that since it was so hot, and the parks were so crowded, we just didn't feel like eating lunch at the counter service spots each day. The counter service credits we did use, we used at breakfast several times.
All in all, the food was good this time around. Not the greatest we've had, but it was okay.
