Hi! So I'm going to Disneyland the last week of August, and since making plans I have been stalking this site! lol Love it! Anyway, we already purchased 3 day park hoppers, but recently decided we want to upgrade to annual passports since we live in San Diego. Where exactly do I go to do this? Can I do it at the ticket booths? This is my first time staying for more than a day so any other helpful info or tips would be also be appreciated. Thanks!!

Yes, you can walk up to a ticket booth and tell them you want to upgrade your park hopper to an annual pass. Make sure you wait until the last day of your park hopper to do this. Once you get it, you will have to show ID at the turn stall to get in since your picture is not in the system yet. Then find ANY photopass photographer to have them swipe your new annual pass and take your picture right then and there. Takes about 24 hours to upload.

Thanks! If I want to upgrade on the first day can I? I understand I would have to show ID whenever come into the park, I'm just wondering if the hassle would be worth being able to use the pass for discounts at stores and restaurants.

I believe you can, but what pass are you planning to get? If its one of the cheaper ones with block out dates, that may cut out some of the days you are eligible to go...assuming you WANTED to go on the weekends.

Yes, you can upgrade on the first day. You could even upgrade before ever using the hopper passes. There is no reason you must wait until the last day. The only reasons you might want to delay upgrading your hoppers is if you wish to take advantage of magic morning first or you have a block out day during your trip. If you are not staying onsite, the only way you get magic morning is with 3 day or longer hoppers (non comped, non military). So if you want to take advantage of magic morning, go to the first available one during your trip and then upgrade your tickets after that. APs do not get magic morning unless they are staying onsite where it is a perk offered by the hotel. Also, check the block out calendar for whatever level of pass you plan on upgrading to. If there are any block out days during your stay, don't upgrade until the last block out, but you can upgrade on that day.

The photographs can take up to 24 hours to upload. Mine and one of my son's pictures were uploaded quicker than that. You only have to show photo ID at the entrance turnstiles until the photograph gets uploaded to the system. If for some reason your picture hasn't uploaded after 24 hours, check with a photographer if you should get it retaken.

If it was me, I'd try to use my MM first, then upgrade soon after to get the discounts. Can you make your first day of the trip a MM? Of course it depends which AP you get and what days you want to go. The Deluxe has no block out days the last week of Aug. If I had no block out days, I'd upgrade right away.

LOL When we were first talking about going to disneyland we thought about getting a pass, but with all the blockouts thought it wouldn't be worth it to get one unless we get the premium pass, which we simply can't afford right now. But the more we talked about it, we decided we would either get the Southern California or Deluxe pass...we're leaning more toward the Southern California annual passport. Although we wouldn't be able to go when my son is on vacation or Saturdays, since their blocked out, I don't mind going up on a Sunday as most of them aren't blacked out. We were going to go to Disneyland 3 days, then go to Universal Studios, but decided to drop Universal Studios and stay an extra day at Disneyland instead. For the Souther California passport, we would break even as far as cost to be there 4 days and cost of passport, and anything after that would make the pass worth it. My son is only 6 so I think it would be fun to surprise him and pull him out of school one day, act like we're driving to school, but actually head over to Disneyland. And like I said, I don't mind going up on a Sunday.

Forgot to add, the week we are going to be there isn't blocked out so it wouldn't interfere with out trip at all.

Thanks for the tips about Magic Mornings. I had no idea passholders couldn't use them unless staying onsite...which we aren't. Our first day in Anaheim we were going to stay at the hotel and do some swimming, then go to Downtown Disney for dinner, and go over to the ticket booths to upgrade to passes while we're there, so as not to have to worry about doing that the next day when we are actually going in to the resort. Now I know to wait!
