We leave in 3 days!! My husband is going to bring his brand new MacBook with him and was just going to leave it in our room. His take? "We won't get robbed at disney." i read somewhere that people have stored there's at the front desk. What is recommended? We are staying at POR.

I have always left any of my items in my room and never had any issues. They do have safety deposit boxes at the front desk, just have to fill out a bit of paperwork and get your keys. If it was me, I would just leave it in my room in the dresser.

If it is too big for the in-room safe, we usually put it in a suitcase under some clothes. We have forgotten and left it out, but I don't think that's a good idea. Disney or not, people are still people. I don't think theft is common at WDW, but I would take the normal precautions and put it away.

After ten trips and just leaving laptop, DSLR camera, and everything else except cash out, never had a problem. Would be a pain having to run back and forth to front desk.

We usually put it in the suitcase. If it makes you feel better, you can even lock the suitcase.

This also depends on if you have housekeeping come in everyday, there are some days that we simply leave our do not disturb sign up, because we want to leave our computers and such out, usually when we need then to upload pictures and video.

I've never had anything stolen at Disney, but I would suggest getting a lock for your suitcase where you can store it while in the parks for more peace of mind. You can just pack the lock if flying and use it after you get there for the laptop.

I've kept my laptop in my room in any hotel I've ever visited, Disney or otherwise. Never had anything taken. I generally put it in my suitcase or backpack before I leave for the day, and I put those in the closet. But I do that more to de-clutter the room to make it easier for the housekeeper to clean, than out of a fear that anything will be stolen.

I have left mine out but I don't have daily housekeeping when I stay at a DVC resort. If I'm in a regular resort room, I just put it in a drawer with clothes on top of it. I also try to limit housekeeping visits so hang out the privacy please thngie on the door when we leave.

Some resorts have large enough in-room safes to hold a laptop and if yours does, use it.

You can store it in the safe deposit boxes at the front desk but it is inconvenient to have to go back and forth to drop it off or pick it up.

While it is unlikely that it will be taken from your room, it is possible and it has happened. No security system is going to thwart a determined and skilled thief, but most hotel room thieves are going for the quick score and anything that will slow them down is likely to make them move on and look for that kind of opportunity. Hiding a laptop is a good first level of security, locking it in a suitcase will be a good idea too, or hiding it and securing it with a cable lock is another option. Just leaving it out in the open turns it into the quick score target that hotel thieves are looking to find.

We usually use DH's hard-sided locking suitcase and leave any valuables locked up in that. We also place it in the closet, out of the way.

If it doesn't fit in the safe, I'd lock it in my luggage, and put it in the closet, not by door.
POR doesn't have a closet, but they do have clothing rod in sink area.

We too have left our laptop and IPad in our luggage buried in the clothes and have never had any problems

I've never had any problems with my personal items. Sometimes I'd put my laptop in the drawer under my clothes but it's really not necessary. The in-room safes are a bit too small for the average-size laptop. I've always had a positive experience with mousekeeping. They are professional and always go that extra mile for you.

I would never leave something valuable out in plain sight or easy to find in any hotel - Disney, Ritz Carlton, or Motel 6. Theft can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Protect yourselves :thumbsup2

If it does not fit in the safe, most resorts have safety deposit boxes at the front desk. You get a key and management has a key and both keys are required to open it. You also fill out a form for it. Very secure. You could also purchase a luggage lock and store it in your luggage when you're gone. They also sell TSA approved luggage locks so you can use it on the plane if you are flying as well.

SOmetimes when we travel as a family, we have A LOT of technological devices with us because we are coming from overseas and going other places too. When this is the case, I put them all in a small suitcase (after we unpack, that is) and lock them with a small suitcase lock and then loop a locking luggage cord (bought at target) around an immovable object (like a small bike lock.) Then i don't have to worry.
