My sister and her family stayed in the Portofino kids suite a week ago and really liked it. Very close walking distance.

I've stayed at the Anaheim Ramada Hotel Maingate- At the Park. It was cheap and the pool was great. It's only about a block/block & 1/2 to the park entrance walk way. There are restaurants nearby and the rooms were clean. We've also stayed at the Best Western Anaheim Inn, Alpine Inn and Desert Palm Suites, nice rooms but small pools.

The only thing I worry about is that then we need our booster seats. If we take the Disneyland express ($80 RT for a family of 5) we don't need them. We did book the CCI and the GC.
